With DJ now flying into GLT, I was surprised when I went to book a flight on Sat. No fares. Either Sat is fully booked or no Sat flights. Bummer, oh well Sunday was an option as well..........holly cough Batman. BNE-GLT rtn on Sunday, $647 ........for 2 x 50min flights (that take 80mins but that's another story)!!

Sorry DJ, you still got my business, but in/out of Rocky on my preferred day (sat) instead for $255 + a $50 car hire. I understand the issues (with Air Australia also) but I feel a bit cheated by those fares. They're not competing with QF ($476 rtn Sat) so I'm wondering how they justify a 35% premium over QF for some weekend travel *. Do they want the route to fail?

*QF are equal on Sun, but Sat was my preference regardless and other options with QF exist like up Sat afternoon and rtn Sun morning @ $426 + O/N accommodation is still cheaper.

You should try going to Moranbah..... $750 each way for peak time flights. I'm surprised that sector wasn't singled out as the cash cow it is during the earnings forecast last week.

No virgin flights on Saturdays, disappointing for weekend trips to Brisbane. Sunday flights to GLT are generally a nightmare cost wise, unless booking well in advance.

Have a look at Mky flights as well.

Friday and Monday the fares are shocking.

I had to organise some travel so we booked it all from MKY to SYD then across to CBR. Half the price on doing MKY-BNE-CBR on the same days.

What is new here is those fares are now lower with competition on the route, but clearly more capacity is needed. If you look at one of the GLT threads before DJ started flying I posted an example of a ROK GLT BNE service with QF that was $450 ex GLT but $220 ex ROK despite the fact it's the same plane, hopefully more ATRs will help!

The QF 717 starts service soon, not sure of the schedule Vs the q400s, but I would hope it is utilised on the Friday evening GLT BNE and Sunday BNE GLT flights

As markis said, the price is a result of very high demand for limited capacity I.e not many seats still available

From 01Apr there is a 1640 717 BNEGLTon Sun arvos..looking forward the leadin levels look to be pretty well sold out in Apr, but May onwards there appear tp be low +$100 levels there...Book early is the go

Here's a reminder of pre competition fares.....

Virgin don't service this route on Saturday.

With regard to fare price, the lead-in fare is $59 each way.

...though I just did a search for this weekend, and Save fares are still available; so your round trip can be less than $250.

I flew back from GLT to BNE last night, from memory the flight cost me $75. There were 13 pax on board (the 11 pax other than myself and my wife appeared to be mainly flouro warriors)!

Guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

I guess all good things come to those who wait, but I won't be paying $400 extra to save an hour and a bit drive each way. How can DJ increase demand unless they meet the market. If there's a need for more capacity, then add it.

Thanks for the sticker shop, today a job came up in Gladstone, I need to send a technician to Gladstone on Thursday, and the airfares were $553 each way.

This conversation to be continued Thursday......perhaps

Leave it until Sat and I'll have a look for you while I'm there. If my memory serves me, we're in very closely aligned businesses ;)

The vessel in due in at 6:00am Thursday and due out at 22:00 Thursday night, this might give you an idea of the size of vessel, an $1,100 airfare is not really a problem for the customer.

VH-FVU arrives into BNE tonight as the newest ATR, no doubt new ATR routes/frequencies will be a feature of tomorrows announcement!
