I have booked QF SYD-BNE-HKG with 1h50m connection. There was an option for 2h50m (and 3h50m) but I may have trouble arriving at SYD in time for the earlier flights.

I'm assuming 1h50m D to I is a legal connection, but will I have any trouble making it through security and exit immi in time? This will be on a public holiday.

Would you recommend the train or the bus (both, I believe not free for QF passengers any more)? How long does it take to get from the plane to the train? I assume my luggage will be transferred for me.

If I do manage to arrive at SYD earlier, would QF allow me to take the earlier flight to BNE to reduce the chance of misconnecting?

TBus services operate between the terminals every 20 minutes, or every 10 minutes during peak times during the day, and are complimentary for passengers holding a Qantas Boarding Pass or itinerary receipt for their connecting flight.

You will have plenty of time for formalities etc.

Are you flying J? The customs and security queues can be worse in BNE than SYD.
If you're eligible, make sure they give you an express card in SYD or landside in BNE or you could miss your connection.

You should be OK assuming your flight is not delayed. YOu luggage will be checked through to destination.

I had a SYD-BNE-SIN connection ~3 weeks ago with a transit of ~1h 45m in BNE. Arrived BNE domestic ~8:35am and was at international before 9:00am and through customs/immigration relatively quickly.

Had more than enough time to check email, pay a bill and have a couple of beers with an AFF moderator and his wife.

Have the same sort of connection again Boxing Day.
