There getting to be such OTT prats, i would have ripped them a new one on my blog if i was him....

I like taking pics out the window on landing and taking off sometimes, maybe even a bit of video... I chose the upper deck of an LH 747-8 to fly on later this year, first time ever upstairs for me and think i have secured an exit row so that i can have a window and hopefully not have to climb over the person next to me, but i expect there will be an FA sitting somewhere in that exit row and wondering if i will be given the third degree for taking my camera out under 10,000 ft and should instead find a seat a few rows back...

I regularly have my camera out during takeoff, landing and while in the air. Per Qantas' rules, it's okay so long as it isn't a camera phone at times when phones can't be used.

I'd have gone one step further than him and named/shamed the FA in question, at least until a satisfactory comp was given. Terrible service, glad I don't fly United so wont have the misfortune of ever running into her.

I've only been chipped once, that was on an AA MD80 leaving DFW (or somewhere). As we pushed back I took a photo of another plane - another MD80 - and the FA said that all electronic devices must be turned off, "and that includes cameras."

Otherwise, nobody gives a hoot. I've taken photographs out the window, inside, of staff, of me embracing staff, of feet, seats, cabins, meals. Once my camera was taken inside a Narita-bound 767 coughpit, and photos of my traveling bear gleefully taken by the jaded flight crew.

Shouldn't all PEDs be switched off? Only digital cameras are listed as exclusions to that rule I thought.

That's what I meant. Slip of the fingers. I use my digital camera. But you can use an iPhone in flight mode when in cruise.

Must be tired. Will edit post.

Maybe edit the OP that says "I regularly have my phone out ..."?

Good thing this FA wasn't on our Star MegaDo 4 on the UA 787. It was pretty much the entire cabin drinking, taking photos, and a semi-professional film crew filming it all (as well as everyone else snapping pics). MegaDo will have photos on there. Shhh. Don't tell UA :p

HOW many times have you taken a photo of your plane seat? Or a selfie as you're ready to take off? Don't do it. You could be kicked off the plane.
That's exactly what happened to travel writer Mathew Klint on a United Airlines flight from New York to Istanbul last week.

Interesting

Now the wrong message is going out there... many airlines allow it, and certainly on Qantas, all the relevant information is on the safety card in the seat pocket, so within easy reach.
