Black Eyed Peas QF BNE to SYD incident

I have skim read a lot of this thread but I have to say taking shots at his status/music/talent/credibility/relevance doesn’t really add anything useful to what is out there in the public domain regarding this incident. I’m not African American but if I were then I might well feel that there was a racial element if I was met by Police after an onboard incident with an FA.
I don’t know what actually occurred onboard. None of us do.
But I think that the public naming and shaming of the QF CSM using one of her Facebook profile pics to publicly shame her on Twitter was abhorrent behavior celebrity or not. Whether he was feeling threatened racially or not. It’s just wrong.
If you feel you are mistreated you should go about the appropriate channels to complain.
Jeopardizing another person’s right to safety and security is not acceptable.

You'd feel that way in Australia?

It's pretty common and divided equally among racial lines; act like a cough on a plane = AFP fun times when you land at the other end or if you're really silly, back to Winnipeg!

Well done Qantas.
There’s quite a few posts to read in this thread. However, the information (above) from post # 115, regarding the QF position, cleared up things for me rather well.

Yes I think it’s entirely possible for someone to feel that way in Australia.

I have not said that I think this particular incident was anything to do with race.
I don’t think it was.
I don’t need a Simpson video to bring me around to this point of view.

The passenger does think the treatment of him was racially motivated and he should have directed his complaint via the appropriate channels for investigation. Publicly identifying the staff member to an audience of millions on Twitter was not the right way to go about this.

Jeez, I thought it was pretty obvious (about the lack of talent) . Maybe *you* are the only one not to realise it. ;)

So if he met your expert standards for talent in the fields of music production and hip-hop, would that excuse his poor behaviour? Or is his talent perhaps completely irrelevant to the issue in question?

There’s something quite unsettling about all the cheap throwaway lines about a whole culture you clearly don’t understand. Not quite overt racism, but clearly meets the threshold for utter booomer lameness and stupidity.

And I find ageist slurs particularly boorish.

All the people throwing "Boomer" around will be old too one day, if they're lucky.
How do people even know each others age and race?

I could be Martin Luther King III for all you people know, everyone's either a naz_, misogynist or boomer these days. We've lost the plot.

Except that the celeb himself admitted he was wearing noise cancelling headphones and didn't hear the FA.Common decency would suggest you removed them if someone was talking to you.

The story I read said he didn't hear a PA annoucement. That would suggest someone WAS NOT talking to him, but to the whole plane.

Why should they? There have been cases where staff have been stalked by passengers that i'm aware of (this is due to a surname being visible on an ASIC (which BTW isn't there for passengers writing down names)).

Qantas CSM name badges have both first and surname. Other crew badges have onle first name. In the case of a CSM, nothing to do with ASIC.

Ah ageism. I'd say a lot of the youth need to reconsider their arrogance in light of their ignorance about life.
Last month I had a mellenial change lanes into my car, once stopped the young P plater jumped out, ran towards my car and blamed me because he was merging with indicator on. When I bluntly, with expletives, questioned his mental ability and reminded him that he is required to give way, the baby faced little boy had to call triple 0. Seems I hurt his feelings by calling him dumb. Pretty lame to think being called dumb is an emergency equal to someone being stabbed or someone having a heart attack. Especially, as he ran at me.

Then the last two days, a p-plater and another young person both just changed lanes right in front of me. Luckily I could avoid the crash. When I reminded both of them about the road rules, they both insisted that turning on the indicator gave them right of way. One of them even said something about driving to my age. Strangely enough in 30+ years of driving I've learned the road rules. The arrogance of youth, clearly in the wrong, who've been driving for 2 years is astounding.

Perhaps before pointing at other generations it might be better to reflect on the lameness and stupidity of the current youth. The older people don't have to call triple 0 when someone calls us a nasty name, and we can accept and learn from our mistakes.

BTW I'm a generation or two after the boomers, and even have plenty of hip hop on my phone including tracks by Billy, even if I prefer grand master flash, 2 live crew, RunDMC etc.

if you are 6ft 4, 150kg of muscle, covered in tatts, long beard, and a mean look in your eyes,

Really, would you? Then I just might make it worth my while!
Anyway what difference would it make what variety Vic comes in when these young fools run around with blades!

If I was I'd have to offer you a vegemite sandwich... in Brussels

Seriously less than 6 foot, less than 150kg, mostly fat, no tatts, no beard, and I didn't actually get out of the car at all.
He approached me and I made no physical attempt to go near him.

Edit: Blades? I feel the biggest weapon is the car I'm sitting in should there be any blades involved.

I’m probably older than you, then.

It’s the attitudes and behavior that get called out, not any particular age per se. Many people appear to have decided they already know it all and retired from critical thinking.

Unfortunately, I mostly experience that in the youth.
