There is a Press Release on the Perth Airport site about the introduction of new Self Check In machines. It says that pax will able to get onto the airplane without showing their passport to anyone once you have checked in. It doesn't specifically mention Border Force but says that after check in you can put your passport away. I know that automated biometric processing of pax at the border has been a goal but have seen no news of late. The press release may have been clumsily worded but it does sound interesting.
