Hi all, thought I would have a go at my first trip report. I really enjoy reading others so thought I may as well contribute.

Just a bit about this trip, and I can imagine the collective groans on AFF as I say (in line with the title) that this will cover a trip to Bali. "Bali, he's not a schoolie is he?!" I hear you ask. Well it wasn't a bad week 17 years ago, but yeah all of that is behind me. I decided to shout my wife (without her knowing until some weeks before) a trip of spas and relaxation to Bali, whilst at the same time keeping my 2 young daughters in line and as much out of their mothers hair as possible. Sounding impossible already? good.

I know Bali has a pretty poor reputation from what I've seen on here, and admittedly I even held that view myself for a while. However I have an Indonesian background and my family and I used to go to Bali when Kuta was a village and Garuda was on everyone's personal no fly list. I remember the Bali of old, the laid back Balinese people, the need to actually know a few Bahasa Indonesia phrases and the local Warung's being the only real option bar the hotel restaurant. This will also be our first real overseas family holiday with kids, so be prepared for more "this is how you can drag a pram through potholed streets" and less "the lack of Bollinger was a real disappointment". Not nearly as interesting i'll admit, but hopefully informative for those still packing nappies into suitcases (and not for themselves).

I've got some photos prepping in Lightroom so I won't start right away, but I'll have some posts up in the next few days.

Even if it was a schoolies TR, I'd still read it.
I'm subscribed. Wife wants me to go to Bali later in the year with her to stay at AliLa Seminyak.
I've never been to Bali, and I have sworn I never will. But my mind can always be swayed.

interested to see if you managed to find any signs of the bali of old vs the nightmare of now.

we went for the first time last year and saw glimpses in the northern agricultural regions but it seems only a matter of time until that is consumed as well

I always thought I would never go to Bali until I went with friends last year. We stayed in Ubud in a beautiful vila and enjoyed the whole experience. I would go back again.

Looking forward to this one... Me and the SO have discussed Bali as a quick getaway destination but haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet.

Looking forward to the read. We're going for the first time in the April school holidays, four weeks to go. We're staying at the Club Med at Nusa Dua. We don't tend to leave the resort when we go to a Club Med.

I love Bali and am heading back at the end of the year. Will be interested to read your TR.

Alila is good. Our room stank of sewage so made them move us which was a bit of a pain at midnight but they upgraded us so that was nice of them.

Haven't been to Bali so will read with interest.

Re the Bintang singlets if you have a spare one, Tony Hancock is looking for new F lounge clothes. :p

We last visited Bali about 15 years ago, so looking forward to the changes

Beyond Bali is the go, Yogyakarta is a good first up. Borobudur (Buddhist) and Prambanan (Hindu) Temples, Mount Merapi.
