Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I've long browsed this forum as flying has been part of my MO since I got my "BEA Junior Jet Club" book way back in 1971 (aged 4) as Mum & Dad shambles dragged me and my 2 younger sisters off to live in Budapest following the old man's career. Loads of travel as a kid and then a six year stint as an Air traffic controller (in da RAAF) meant that I got to do most things (leagal and otherwise) whilst in the air, so it was a natural progression to take a sales & mareting gig that had a fair bit of travel involved.
Anyway, I digress. A few weeks back, I was starting to look at plans for my once every year or so, "personal" trip to Europe for me & SWMBO, and realised that come end of July I may just be able to work an itinerary that pops me up a notch to QP. Aside from reading around here a lot of stuff from disgruntled QP members, I thought bugger it, might as well see how the other half live if it's simply a matter of a slightly longer journey than my usual QF 30/29 and a bit of creative ASA sector by sector booking.
After a final 2 hour sesh today of juggling two laptops and countless permutations and combinations, I've finally locked in our trip and with a NZ trip due in the next week or two, I should just about get to QP instead of what was shaping up to barely managing to retain QG (a lot more video conferences instead of meetings lately
)
Sincere thanks to you lot for the easy to understand tips and other info on here - it made me realise that there are many other ways to boost your SC earn and mix things up a bit for a change.
I gave up on the JQ to SIN idea after their "business max" idea seems to have taken a lot of SC vs $$ value away, and have bit the bullet with ASA business class QF to SIN (and back) and a AY J class return to LHR. I've only ever done London-Helsinki with AY (Y class) so am looking forward to seeing how their J stacks up. All told, I've parted with circa $6.5K (after tax
) and 120,000 points. Also the added bonus
that I've had to book Mrs Shambles on a Y ticket for one of the shorter sectors. (she can always share my bed seat thingy)
So all that's left to do is book a 3 day side trip Sigapore to KL for some shoppping & eating (was thinking JQ asia seems to be pretty cheap and frequent?), a BA return LHR to Toulouse to talk about how great Aussie vino is, with some relos in France for a day or two, and some freebie accomodation with PC points for the few nights where we can't bludge of friends and family.
I'll be back at work for a holiday after those two weeks!
Thanks again
