Rumours have been swirling for a while now, on both SQTalk and Flyertalk, that SQ will auction off tickets for the A380 inaugural. It's now officially confirmed:

Singapore Airlines A380

In response to requests from people all over the world to be passengers on the first flight, Singapore Airlines will auction the seats on global online marketplace, eBay.

Bids will be invited for seats on this history-making flight, and winning bidders will know that every dollar they pay will go to worthwhile charities. All customers will receive a personalised ceremonial certificate confirming they were part of the first-ever commercial A380 flight.

Interesting to see what price range people will be prepared to pay for the inaugural flight. I have not checked ebay, have any seats gone to auction yet?

The eBay auction starts on Monday 27th of August, you will need to pre-register if you plan on bidding on a premimum (Suite or Business Class) or if you plan to bid over $1000.

G'day Ben, welcome to AFF. :D

Info on this has already been posted on this Forum here in this thread: http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...hen-do-flights-commence-10770.html#post137962

AUD $300000. Remember that's only the "Buy it Now" price - and not what it may go for (could be higher or lower!).

Personally, I have better things to spend $300000 on. :)

I'm skipping the A380 auction I think, but will keep an eye on it to see if I can get a super discounted bargain. I'm more inclined to wait till Qantas offers something later.

To satisfy my "new aircraft" urge, I'm seriously considering booking a return on DJ for their first EMB flight. Less than $260 return, and a day trip to Cairns :)

SOLD!

Hm I;m told that to offer you need to have paid for the 10 grand security deposit. Otherwise the offer is invalid.

.

So someone ponied up with the SG$380000 (or at least promised that they would ;) There is a nasty fine waiting for them from SQ if they don't front the cash :) )

Sheisers. I spose that sets the mood for most of the auction. Bid with your wallet, not your mind!

SG$380k?!!! oh my goodness!!! Some folks have way 2 much $$$$ to splurge with, I am definitely not one of them!!!

btw, I know eBay has zillions of items on any one day but eBay must be making some serious commissions from 380 sales!

All services like ebay and fuel are being donated, all profits to charity.

Buying a charity-auction item, what proportion of the winning bid would be tax-deductible? :)
If 100% deductible, the prices may seem a lot ore reasonable.
On the current exchange rate, are the bids anywhere near the cost of full-fare airfares?

Would anyone here be keen to stay in the bidding - and how charitable are you feeling?
:p

The money is not paid by the bidder to the charity, so no tax benefit to the bidder. No receipt from the charity means no deduction. But I am sure SQ gets a god tax deduction from the "donation".

Tax wise, here's the wording of the FAQ...

1.2.13 Will I get a tax rebate since the money goes to charity?

The successful bidder will not receive a tax rebate through this charity auction because Singapore Airlines is selling a ticket and a service to the successful bidder. The transaction between the successful buyer and Singapore Airlines is a sale of an airline ticket.
Upon receiving all proceeds, Singapore Airlines will make the donation to the named charity or charities. To be fair to all successful bidders who bid in the spirit of generosity, Singapore Airlines will NOT be filing for a tax rebate for the donation.
Everyone involved makes the contribution to be part of a historical event, not gain a tax benefit.
