If you convert $50 to THB, the 220THB ATM fee comes to 20.2%. If you're prepared to swallow that ludicrous fee, why care about possible DCC being added to it? The banks apparently take the same attitude: If you're prepared to pay the ATM charge, they might as well skim some more off you.

As moa999 said, just use cash!
Who takes $50 out of an overseas ATM?

I stay in Thailand for long periods of time and always take out the Maximum allowed and use my Citibank card.

Although I would rather use a Citi ATM that does not have ATM fees they are only available in some locations in Bangkok. Outside of Bangkok I always like to use Kasikorn which allows me to withdraw 30K bht at a time. Although this does not fully negate the ATM fee it still gives a better exchange rate than changing cash. But be careful with the Kasikorn ATM ,, it will try and get you to accept the conversion to be done in AUD by them. And the rate is terrible.

I do the same thing in the Philippines, Citibank tellers few and far between. Most ATM's will only allow you to withdraw 10 or 15k Pesos .. The exception that I have found there is The Bank Of the Philippine Islands. BPI. It is a red ATM and will allow withdrawals of 20k.
