Guys,

need some help here. In the states need to maximise SC's. Heard about the Y-up option, I take it that only works if there is a F section and not J?

If the following the correct fare basis?
PUPPNR

Your wise counsel is always appreciated.

Trying to remember my YUPP run in the US, I seem to recall being able to upgrade all sectors including the likes of MEM-DFW, so can't remember if it applies to just F cabins.
As for a fare base YUPP comes to mind.

Paging Serfty...

In the meantime, you're looking for KUPP and YUPP fares. To find these fares choose the Instant Upgrade option in the 'Enhanced' view, and 'View All' down the bottom of the first results summary page so that you can see the longest most inefficient routing to maximise your SCs. Remember to expand the flight routing to ensure you are ticketed in booking classes F or P (discount First), and you might also want to look at the stated distance/mileage to match up with the QF zone and SC earning tables.

As a guide, you're doing well if you can get KUPP/YUPP fares at $2-4 per SC.

PUPPNR is a YUP type fare. It books into P class which is discounted First on AA. Travel in P class on AA earns as for First class travel if crediting to QFF.

e.g. You can get this fare SFO/LAX round trip for USD327 which will earn 120 SC with two First Class trips of 600 miles or less in each direction earning 60 SC's each.
