Best way to get Krisflyer points? Altitude better? Life Miles?

I would appreciate if anyone could also PM me the details about the trick, thanks!

One other benefit of lifemiles. In January we are flying RGN-SIN.You can't buy or redeem this flight through SQ.But I was able to get it as a LM award.

Sorry, just got back from RGN so didn't read this. Actually you can do this via the app. Neither the website or the App have RGN loaded as a from airport but with the app you can just type in RGN to another destination and it will accept, which I did.

PS not sure of your plans but don't spend too long in Yangon, it was probably the least interesting place on my trip. Highly enjoyed Myanmar, though it's not a cheap Asian destination!

RHi guys:

There is another promotion going on now for those that are interested. It is the legal, and open way to buy KF points at 2.1c each. Yes, it's not as good as the trick I was talking about, but it gives more flexibility.

Starwood is offering star points at 25% discount, so it comes down to 2.65c each. But if you transfer star points to KF points at 20000 point, you get bonus 5000 points. So it comes down to about 2.1c per KF miles. The catch is that you can only buy a maximum of 20000 points per account. But the way to get around it is to sign up all your family member under the same address and do family transfers (free of charge). So if you register 4 members (typical family with 2 kids) you can buy up to 100k KF miles!

The great advantage of SPG points is that it is can be transferred to 21 airline partners not just KF. Some of the airlines offer ridiculously cheap rate such as JAL, where SYD to NRT is only 60/80k roundtrip on J/F respectively! That translate to $1260 and $1680 in J and F round trip!!!

As I said, this is fully legal and it's not a trick or a loophole in the T&Cs, you can feel comfortable to buy up to the maximum allowed!

The other catch is, the account has to be open for at least 14 days, so I would advice you to sign up right now (it's free) with Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), and whether you want to purchase the points or not it's entirely up to you. They run this promotion about twice a year. It's good that it's toward the end of the year, so if you purchase 80000 points now (for family of 4), and when the next promotion come up (usually Mar-May), you can buy more and you will have 200k KF points! More tha enough for a rt to Europe in J!

Thanks VAG newbie. I had forgotten about SPG.

I am hoping to get a booking in J from PER to SIN and Suites from SIN to HKG sometime in the next 13 months so this will help a fair bit. Just sweating on the official Velocity transfer announcement now as 1.35 seems almost too reasonable.

I have not yet received a PM from anyone detailing 'the trick' mentioned, any chance someone has received it and could forward it on?

Have they made the announcement already? Where did you hear that? If it's 1.35:1, then you don't need my trick. Better pay ATO

If it really is 1.35:1, then the best way is still to pay ATO using other full VA point earning cards. I won't name them or else we might kill more, but it's not hard to find an AMEX card that earns VA points at the same old rate as the Altitude black.

Assuming we can still earn 1.5 VA points with ATO, it works out to be about 0.9c/VA point, and since it is tax deductible, you are really only paying 0.5-0.7c/VA point depending on your tax rate. At 1.35:1, that is still 0.67-0.94c/KF points!! And don't forget that VA will give the 10-15% bonus points from time to time!

So it is IMO that it won't be 1.35:1. Maybe it was a typo, it is suppose to be 1:3.5. In which case you might as well use VA points to redeem Etihad.......

You are right and it is all guesswork until the official announcement, but thanks for the ideas.

I have plenty of time to get it sorted but am rather looking forward to the Krug.

Well the rumour has been proved at least half right!

Looks like I'm a man of little faith! But as I posted in the other thread, VA points is not as useless as many of us think.

So I guess the other way to quickly rack up KF points is to collect VA points now especially it's so easy to earn in Australia. Definitely paying ATO as I suggested above is the quickest and best way to earn! But also consider those sign up bonuses, not necessarily credit cards, but foxtel, lumo energy all give good sign up bonus for VA. At 1.35:1 ratio, it's pretty good!

Although I'm still pessimistic, if the traffic from VA to KF is much higher, they might put a cap or worsen the ratio.

No doubt over time things may change but for now let's look at this as glass half full and just enjoy it!

But if you transfer star points to KF points at 20000 point, you get bonus 5000 points. So it comes down to about 2.1c per KF miles.

How did you end up at 2.1c per KF mile? 20,000 Starwood points (25,000 after transfer) is $525 USD or $605.38 AUD at todays exchange rate which = 2.4c per mile.

It's not really ideal to make miles with a signature card as the return isn't high enough.
