I plan on flying to Germany from Sydney in May next year.
I have enough reward points to convert to Qantas ff, Air Nz, Emarites etc points or would I be better paying for the flight?

:D
kristo,
If you don't use your points for this trip, what will you use them for?

Invariably the best use of points is on long haul trips so on the surface at least it would appear that using the points for this trip would be the best way to go. -- Remember that the points requirements are about to change, that there are limited reward flights available and that you may need to book a long way ahead. :D
Good luck :!:

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Sydney to Frankfurt

Not sure if you were thinking of redeeming a Business or Economy ticket to Frankfurt. If you were thinking of buying a Discount Economy ticket and upgrading, check out the changes on the Qantas site that take effect from 1st January 2004, in which the number of points required to upgrade increases substantially.

I plan to go the cheapest way possible.

I need car rental also.

There is no point using 100,000 or so points to fly if I can get a package with car rental and flights for $2000 and the car alone costs $1000 to rent.

As this would value my 100,000 points at only $1000 which is only 1%.

I was hoping someone may know the best thing to do.

kristo,

I'd have to say here that there is no "best way" to go :!: :(

It will depend upon what airfares there are on offer and what FF availability is on offer. As mentioned previously the basic rule with all of this is to earn the points on short haul and spend them on long haul. On most occassions this gives the best value for points.

Good luck :!:

The 'best' way will depend in part on your current QFF status. If you purchase a discount economy ticket for $2000 that includes car rental valued at $1000, you can earn up between 20 486 and 40 972 points for the return journey. That may be enough to get you a return trip to NZ or Fiji, or around 35% of the points required to get you a return Sydney-Frankfurt.

Alternatively, you could purchase the return ticket at $2000, and use your existing points for an upgrade to business (currently 100 000 return, but from 1 January 2004, 180 000 return). Rack rates for QF business to Frankfurt are at least $9600, and you would still earn at least 20 486 points.
