Best way to book 2 QF J tickets on same flight MEL to LHR return, one points other paid==>Question

This question is hypothetical at present (), but I want to travel, when we can, with a friend on the same flight as in the title above, using my points for one ticket and paying for the other. I haven't been able to work out a way to book tickets that guarantees we'll be on the same flight. Some advice would be most welcome. Thanks!

The two browsers concurrently is a good tip, especially as a points redemption could exhaust the last allocated seats in that fare bucket pushing the cost up. Have seen this myself on domestic routes.
