Just looking at some of the offers from the Qantas and was wondering if anyone had found the best (non-upgrade) use for ther points
For example:
Qantas Club Annual renewal:
65,000 points vs. $355.00 = 0.55 cents per point

Brisbane-Melbourne Flight Economy return
24000 points vs $231.00 (+$77.00 taxes) = 0.96 cents/point

Brisbane - Singapore Flight Economy return
60,000 points vs $644.00 (+$246.06 taxes) = 1.07 cents per point

Brisbane-Los Angeles Flight Economy return
96000 points vs $1399 (+$297.58 taxes) = 1.46 cents/point

Brisbane-Melbourne Upgrade Disc Econ - Business return
24000 points vs $1444 = 6.02 cents per point

Brisbane-Los Angeles Upgrade Econ - Business return
144000 points vs $9319.00 = 6.47 cents per point.

No surprises there, regarding the value of redeeming upgrades.
What I really wanted to know however, was whether there was anything on the Qantas flight/shop list (other than upgrades) that people knew about that gave the best dollars per point - maybe somewhere between 2-7 cents per point.
Or maybe even just a list of redemptions that were the best bang for their points (even if they were an upgrade).

ps. didn't check the calculator too much, so apologies in advance for any wrong calculations.

Business Class or First Class OneWorld award up to 35,000 miles is roughly equiv to a OneWorld Explorer 4 continent fare, so those would be:

Business Class: $9,539 for 282,500 points, or 3.37 cents/point
First Class: $13,269 for 422,500 points, or 3.14 cents/point

Perhaps some straight First Class or business class redemptions such as Perth-London work out even higher. PER-SIN-LHR fits into zone 9, so 168,000 points each way in F, and $14,466. So that is 4.3 cents/point.

I find it quite astonishing that a business class flight BNE-LAX is that expensive. A DONE4 is around $10,000 + ~$600-$1500 in taxes. If I had the choice I know which I would pick.

Otherwise browski it is a pretty good guide of QFF points value.

I think Qantas shop lost me when they went to points + pay. Most of the items I can get for around 10%-30% less than quoted price. Flights or upgrades seem to be better option.

Yes, that is the published business class fare. And yes, that is why I never use point-to-point business class fares to the USA. If I am going to the USA in business class, it is always either a OneWorld Explorer or a Circle Pacific fare. Much better value for money and better status earning opportunity.

browski, that's why I'm blowing 288,000 points (hopefully) upgrading Mrs LW and me BNE/LAX/BNE (our only QF sectors) on our upcoming trip in Dec/Jan. Best value for our points and well worth it (even given the new points scheme).

Time to burn what I have earned....

Brisbane-Tokyo Economy Return
60,000 points vs $1021 (+253.98 taxes) = 1.7 cents per point

Melb-Tokyo Economy Return
72,000 points vs $1021 (+290.92 taxes) = 1.42 cents per point

From Melb, Same price flight, yet more tax and less points value? Or maybe Melb just benefiting from cheaper flight.
