So in another post I have had a rude awakening to the fact that just because you have the QFF points it doesn't mean you will be entitled to a guaranteed upgrade.

i also found out that there are better FF programmes out there. What I'd like to know is if QFF points can been redeemed via one of these other FF programmes or can they only be redeemed via the Qantas site.

From the general discussions I've seen, redeeming the points for flights is not the most efficient, and if you try to use them for upgrades then Bronze members have Buckleys, so what other uses for QFF points would people suggest please ? There are so many promos, credit cards etc extolling the accumulation of QFF points there must be some bonus in going to all this trouble ? ( and because I took up a special offer I am already a Qantas Club member, so redeeming points for that is going to help either)

Why do you think you can transfer QFF points to another FF program?

About 150,000 plus

No you can only use QF points on flights booked through the QF website and only upgrade flights on QF metal I think or at least with a QF flight nmber (but i never do this so others will know better)... If your a bronze member you are pretty far down the pecking order to put in for upgrades with all the other status members ahead of you... But redeeming for flights is still probably better value than buying toasters and all, but then can be varying views of what exactly 'value' is and how to measure it...

You can still book a classic award flight, so book in J or F on QF or any other other One World airlines or partners such as Emirates... Some of the OW partners will charge you a higher number of points than if you flew the same distance on QF or EK for instance, but then in other cases they may also charge you lower fuel surcharges...

Me personally I think the OW 140k/280k awards are probably the best use of points or getting say J class flights back to OZ or between points overseas as the fuel surcharges can be quite a bit less and you get the most value over the longer flights i tend to find...

Just my 2 cents anyway... :)

Well I recall Kris Flyers could use points on Virgin, so was wondering if One World ( I think that's what Qantas is) had a similar type of arrangement with other carriers

Thanks I appreciate your advice

You mean accumulate enough points to pay for the complete flight ? didn't think of that, but in imagine that would a fair whack

You can't transfer KF points to VA, but you can use them for VA flights.

Same as you can use your QFF points for their partners, but you have to complete it through QF.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Oh! I didn't know that. Is there a "sticky" on how you do that please, or a link somewhere?

Yup. That's generally the best use. Although you just might be able to afford a toaster with 150k points ;)

Mm yeah, accumulate the points after using up some bread, and then get the benefit of a new toaster :) synchronicity !

With QF points there is no "OW partners will charge" or "they may also charge you lower fuel surcharges.". It is only QF and what it is in QF awards tables.

For example a AA freq flyer award on a QF aircraft generally needs less AA miles and no cash surcharges as the AA award chart: nothing to with QF freq flyer program. This works both ways

Many consider this the most value from QF points: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ogram/oneworld-award-140k-280k-420k-8228.html

I have been crediting QF flights to AAvantage for ~5 years

I have been using QF points for J flights across Australia and a first class Emirates tester from Sydney to Auckland to Sydney.
Have also used QF points on AA between Los Angeles and New York and back in First Class.
None of these points flights were too difficult to book.

Thanks for that Mwenenzi, so I assume you do this on the AA site ( I actually joined AA FF when I took out 3 weeks Admiral lounge membership) and there is provision to recognise your QFF points ?

If you want to use your QF points, it is though the QF site, not the site of the airline you want to fly.

Thats good to know, thanks cove. You did the booking on the carriers website and they recognised your QFF points there ? or do you go somewhere of the Qantas site and convert them to the carriers FF scheme?

Like I have mentioned a number of times in this thread, you use the QF site to use your QFF points.

Yes, sorry about that , I was just cross checking because of your earlier comment

Re: Best use of QFF points ?
Why do you think you can transfer QFF points to another FF program?

which seemed at odds with what you are now saying to do ie it seems that you can transfer your QFF points to another FF programme but as you note it's done on the QFF site
