On our last overseas trip in 2015 I purchased an Australia Post travel sim card which I have kept active. With this sim you are allocated a Estonian (sounds like something out of Dilbert) phone number.

It worked out ok but I wonder if there is a suitable alternative where you can keep your own number? This can be helpful for those back home you didnt give your Elbonian number to and sometimes you give airlines and hotels contact numbers and out of habit you give them your normal mobile number.

I was told in the past that Vodaphone have a sim you can use for $5 a day. You are charged if you use the phone and then only a maximum of $5 a day. I dont know if I misunderstood or if it has changed but having a look at the Vodaphone web site it seems that you have to sign up to a plan and then your $5 gets you access to your normal phone and data usage.

I dont want to sign up to a plan as I am very happy with the Aldi prepaid deal that I currently have.

We are heading overseas again later this year (Italy & Greece) and I wonder if there is a sim where I could keep my own number and not cost a fortune. Data is not that important as there plenty of free wifi to use these days.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yep. I think the prices on the website also include the activation (US$20 for eSIM, $5 plus postage for the regular or sticker SIM).

Regular price for a long global trip is 1GB 90days for US$30. The country/continent packs are good value particularly if you sign up 1/2 months in advance where you get the best discounts.

Advice for a travel sim travelling to Thailand. I'm okay with data, but will need to make a few local/international calls while there and need to leave a contact number at a few places.

Bumping, travelling to Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand in 30 days or so.

With Telstra as my provider, wondering if their $10 per day would be the best option, or any other choices for the use of calls & data (ie: taxi location / calling, uber, airbnb, basic things).

I have read through spme of the pages here.

The Star hub one is my go to.. So much so that I keep it active all the time. Great roaming costs pretty much everywhere

Does your phone have an eSIM? IMHO, that’s the way to go. I’ve been intending to start a whole new thread on that option.

If not, Woolies Global Roaming has a relaunch special on with 10 GB data for $60/30 days (plus SIM cost). Not sure how that offer works with a bundle that includes calls.

WGR used to be my “Go To” option but they got a bit pricey. I haven’t looked to closely, but this deal at least has some reasonable data. Also, you can pickup the SIM in Oz and configure before you leave. You’ll need to double check it covers your destinations but f you’re away for more than six days, then you’re probably ahead of Telstra.

I honesty don't know anything about esim (SG9 purchased within last 12 months or so: $69 family and friends, ends Jan 2021 (15 months from today) ).

We will be away 3 weeks.

Saw another topic talking about "Lemon" Mobile data roaming. Has anyone here used it? Unlimited data for up to 15 days.

Different sim options, including the screen shot I've added.

I might use Lemin, or the Woolies roaming.

Lemon topic:

Lemon mobile - anybody tried and/or used?

No idea what they’re like, but FFS - what marketing dept came up with “Lemon”? Poor persons Orange? (Putting aside the actual cost of lemons....).

The Woollies offer doesn't include calls but there is a simple work around.
Also be aware that there are 2 zones with zone 2 being somewhat expensive.

I rec’d an email from SimsDirect which I’ve used for a number of years and found them very reliable. They are doing it tough along with everybody else, especially the travel industry. I received an email today that offers 40% off long date SIM cards :

“My name is Aidan and I’m one of the co-founders of SimsDirect.

“I just wanted to let you know we’re having a 40% off sale to clear our stock.

And I also wanted to be fully transparent about where we’re at, and why this sale is happening.

As you’re all I’m sure aware, the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been sending the world into a bit of a weird time.

Other than the obvious medical impact the virus is having, the travel industry has been decimated, unfortunately taking us along with it.

We’re a small startup, and with the sharp decline in SIM sales since the outbreak, we’ve had to make some really tough decisions and have no choice but to let our amazing team go. It’s all happened really fast.

We don’t intend to go out of business; we’re gonna do everything in our power to stick around and keep doing what we’re doing, once things pick up again!

So, if you’re planning on traveling once this craziness is over, why not buy your (outrageously) discounted SIM now in advance? All our stock is 40% off, so it’s an absolute steal. And they have late expiration dates so you can buy now and keep it!

Or - if you guys have been following us for a while, or would like to support us during this tough time, buying a 20% off gift card (that never expires!) would really go a long way in helping us.

This can be saved for your next holiday when the virus settles down 😌

Just bought one. Nice. Thanks for sharing. Still got two unused ones from the cancelled USA trip in June :( Hope they last until later...

I bought a USA Sim in July 2019 and contacted them to see if it would cover up to June 2021. They said yes, it will run out in August 2021. That’s a good long dated SIM that I bought on special before.

I bought a couple of the three uk sim cards
