Hi all...

My family and I are about to head to Orlando, FL in Sept.

I am looking for suggestions regarding travel insurance...

I currently have an Qantas American Express Premium Card which has Travel Insurance, however I am not sure how this compares to other policies that may be available..

We will have a car for most of the period that we are there so would need to ensure we have a policy to handle rental car insurance and excesses...

Any suggestions?

Karen

I have never found a policy that covers anything other than the excess on a rental car in the US... and I HAVE looked!

As a result I always book US car rentals through the sites that are "all inclusive".. ie.. CDW/LDW inclusive....

For everything else (like Medical/cancellation etc) there seems to be plenty of good policies around...

I recall Dave Noble has posted links in the past to a UK site that covers Car Rentals Insurance. I can't find it right now but I'm sure Dave will post it again for us.

May have been Car Hire Excess Insurance | Car Rental Excess Insurance

For a low, annual premium, Insurance4carhire.com provides excess insurance protecting the customer against excess charges whenever they rent a car. Your car rental agreement normally includes cover for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft. However you are still liable for the Excess on CDW and Theft. When a rental car is damaged or stolen, the driver is asked to pay the first portion of the repair or replacement costs. This is known as the Excess. Insurance4carhire covers you not only for the total amount of Excess for which you are liable if the car is damaged or stolen, but also for damage to the roof and undercarriage of the car, and windows and tyres.

Thanks Mwenenzi,

Quite frankly I'm not sure if that is the one Dave Noble mentioned or not. Certainly looks OK though even if it is not the one.

Not sure also. I pdf'ed the web page in Jan 07, so have a copy.
Quoted prices are in pounds sterling (can't do the UKP sign :p )

Use [ALT]+0163 to get £ (Hold an [Alt] Key down while pressing 0, 1, 6 & 3. Then release the [Alt] key.)
OK Thanks Use ALT 248 = ° (°C) ALT 252 = ³ (m³) ALT 253 = ² (m²) at work every hour (such is the life of an engineer with MS Excel - MS Word).

Not a separate policy for purchase, so doesn't altogether meet your definition, but the LDW/CDW (Loss Damage Waiver / Collision Damage Waiver) provisions of the insurance that comes with the Amex Platinum Charge card (Australian issued cards, sorry :() actually does (with conditions - of course).

For rentals of 31 days or less, as part of a trip (local or overseas) which began at you usual place of residence, and provided you are more than 250km from that place, you are covered for up to $70,000AUD maximum (or the loss amount, or he value of the vehicle). Other conditions include charging the entire rental cost to the Amex Platinum Charge card, the vehicle must not be worth more than $70,000AUD, and the rental agency must be licensed.
