To summarise many posts re
Booking ex jnb

I think now it is clear that previous methods of booking with AA in SA are no longer valid.

There are 2 options to book ex SA
1. The cheapest. Plan your trip with rtw tool. Ring AA rtw desk in Dallas. Book your ticket. Then ring AA in SA to pay.
2. Plan your ticket using tool and proceed to booking to price it. Then complete booking and you are immediately able to see reservations. Ring the ticket issuer in SA to pay, prob will be BA if first sector is to Europe.

I used option 2. Very easy and ticket with BA
My credit card has just been debited $6893 for business per person

As others have stated if I had followed option 1 instead and rung AA in Dallas for booking and then paid AA in SA the price would have been even less.

However even using on line tool then paying with BA it is still a huge saving compared to ex Aus
