Hi Guys,

We are flying in early July 09 Finnair (Cathay metal) AY5846 PER to Hong Kong arriving at 8:10 am to pick up a Finnair flight (AY068) to Helsinki at 9:20am. All flights are economy (O)

I have QFF Gold, my wife has Bronze. i believe this gives us both access to OW lounges at HK.

Which lounge would you recommend we use?

Regards,

steve

The CX WING or CX PIER are better than the QF lounge. The Wing has a more open feel. Why not visit both (but allow 15 to 20 min to walk between them).

I have never been to any other lounge in HKG than the Wing or the Pier. Never felt the need to. The Wing is the better of the two, in my opinion, but if your time is limited, pick the closest one, because HKG is BIG!

These two lounges set a very high standard. Have a shower, a bowl of noodles, just sit and relax. It's all good. It's a long way from your typical Qantas Club. Absolutely top notch.

There are any number of airline lounges, including some "pay-as-you-go" chains. and there's also some great shopping, especially for electronics. Just walking up and down those long halls, jumbos taking off every few minutes, the tall apartment blocks and the taller mountains just behind, it's a thrill.

Without a doubt the Cathay lounge, Wing or Pier are standouts...Enjoy the Haegen Daz icecream:)

Or the noodle bar :)

HKG is shaped like:

|-<

With the wing being near | near gate 3

And the pier being near \ of the < being near gate 64

As soon as you get through security at HKG - work out what gate you are leaving rom and what you are at and then choose the closest one :)

Not much time in this transfer. You'll have to go through transit security before you get airside again, and that can take a few minutes, especially if there's some walking to do and a queue. The process is just show your documents, routine security and hats off for the temperature sensor, but it takes a chunk out of your lounge time.

If I only have a short time, I'll try for a shower. Quick shower, shave, shift of underwear and I'm ready for the next leg.

Ditto what others said. If you've never been to HKG, be prepared to do a bit of walking as it's BIG.

Prior to getting status/lounge access, I usually allow 1.5 hours for transit and that goes by quickly just by browsing the shops and WALKING to the gate.

If you do decide to go, bear in mind there's the Wings/Piers first class lounge vs the business lounge. The signs at the airport do not distinguish which one is which until you are near the lounge door. Knowing which one is where can save you a bit of time.

Oh, and enjoy the noodle bar. :)

i completely agree with all the other comments here. the CX Wing/Pier is da bomb!

Great thread.

I am travelling on QF29 in a few weeks in J.

Does anyone know how much time I'll have to kill in the CX lounge? (assume J boarding pass grants me access). :D

Thanks to all for the replies. With only 70min between flights I guess we'll check out whichever is the closest lounge.

For J - Both the Wing & the Pier offer top service & facilities.
I take usually 1 - 1.5 Hours:
Shower 10-20mins (depends on the queue)
Noodles + bunch of other stuff + ice cream
Checking email with a glass or two of alcohol (Full bar with more than enough to choose from)
Range of international magazines

But for F lounge, I'd prefer the Wing, simply because of the bath.
It has a restaurant style dining area.
Bath to soak in. (Very relaxing especially in transit, if you have the time of course)
Library (Which I'm not into but I'm sure some other will like it)

F lounge in The Pier offers day room which gives you much greater privacy. (Provided you can have it as it's quite limited)
Food not as nice as the Wing but better than J.

With the time allowed, I would just go to whichever lounge is closest. Depending on the arrival gate it could take 10-15 minutes to get from the doors opening to get to the security checkpoint leaving all of around 20 minutes before bording starts

I agree that the Wing n Pier are nicer than the QF lounge, but with such a short connection, the time in the lounge is likely to be minimal anyway.

I've done the "Double" a few times and I have found the buffets of Wing and Piers First Lounges' have the basically the same spread. I believe the menu changes daily.

When I'm fizzing around the world on one of my trips - sixteen flights, sixteen days - finding time for a shower and a meal at The Wing is a priority for me. Some lounges are just lounges, but The Wing is a treasure.

I wouldn't try to visit both lounges as the codeshare to Helsinki may well leave from one of the gates right by the Wing. If departure gate is 1 - 20 go for the Wing definitely. You might not have enough time to get to the Pier and back again.

my 2c worth.

The "People Mover" is now one-way only for departures. If you take it from the "wing" to the "pier" you will have to walk/travellator back along the spine.
