Best lounge in Frankfurt Airport?

A question for the knowledgeable

(I apologise for not using the correct abbreviations, but am still to master the majority of them )

I am flying Mel/Singapore/Frankfurt/Bilbao (Spain) and return next month. I am flying QF to Frankfurt and Lufthansa to Bilbao (and vice-versa) in J class, and am a WP. I have about 5 hours in Frankfurt on the way and 4.5 on the way back. QF flights arrive and depart from Terminal 2 and Lufthansa from Terminal 1.

What is the best lounge to use in Frankfurt whilst I am stuck there? I have been there before several times, but have not found the lounges as good as in Singapore. I like to have a shower and consume an amount of food and beverages.

Unfortunately, I haven't been to FRA's Lounges for ~5 years. Last time I was there, FWIW, I chose the BA Lounge. IIRC, it had showers (I might be wrong, I didn't use them) and F&B (but limited food like all BA Lounges).

When departing LH from FRA you have a choice of several Busines Class lounges (unless you also have *Gold or status with Lufthansa Miles and More). Given FRA-BIO departs from pier A schengen zone, the most convenient lounge will be the Business Class lounge in that zone. Note there are 2 other types of lounges to which you wont have access, SEN lounge and HON/First Class lounge. While confusing, it is reasonably well signposted.

Changing terminals is a little bit of a pain - it will involve passport control (should be quick), the airtrain, and at least 1 or 2 lots of security. Again, it is reasonably well signposted.

As a QF platinum FF member, you can use the Delta Crown room before departing on the QF return flight. But as this is not a Qantas Club location, you cannot use if on your outbound trip.

Qantas Platinum FF member can visit a Qantas Club lounge at any time, but there is not such a lounge in FRA. A OneWorld Emerald member can visit any One World lounge when you next onward flight is both marketed and operated by a OneWorld airline. Since your next departure is with LH, you don't qualify to use the other OneWorld lounges (there is a BA lounge and CX share another facility).

So unless you have some status or have purchased a ticket on the LH flight that provides you LH lounge access, then you won't have access to any lounge.

Thanks. Yes I am aware of the security checks. While they can be a pain, at least the attendants are usually polite and efficient. I got a little geographically embarrassed once, but that may have been due to the inflight service though

As I am flying J on LH, I can use their Business Class lounge on the outbound trip.

Flights within Germany and to Spain both leave from the Schengen zone. Movement across country borders within the Schengen countries (most of western europe except UK and Switzerland) is much less restrictive than other borders. Depending on when your prior flight to Berlin (TXL for Tegel is the most likely airport code) was, it will be the same area.

Thanks, but I think you are too generous about my use of abbreviations :shock: I will try to learn more.

As I am always in FRA either at the end of a flight from MEL and before I start a day's work, or at the end of a day's work and before a flight to MEL, I really do appreciate the shower facilities. That is my major reason for inquiring about the lounges, to find the best showers. I will sacrifice a little in shower quality to gain in wine quality though :wink: .

I am constantly amazed at the knowledge of all things flying related on this board. Considering how many times I have been to FRA, you would think I would know some of this. Actually, if I had thought long and hard enough I would have remembered the TXL abbreviation.

So, now to really stretch the limits, do you have any knowledge of the BIO lounges?

The Delta Crown room is on the departures level, near the gate most often used by QF6. It is nicer than the pokey BA lounge. Basically the BA lounge is a short-haul lounge with a very small selection of food and beverages. The Delta Crown room is much more spacious and better selection of food and beverages.

It is used by QF for both First and Business class passengers. I don't think there is a separate F section, but its been a while since I was there. Most of my trips through FRA recently have been with BA and I have used that lounge.

I can't remember the name of the lounge used by CX, but it is much the same as the Delta Crown room, and again located at the rear of the departures level near the gates most often used by the CX flight.

Note that you will only be able to use it before your QF6 departure from FRA, not after the QF5 arival into FRA.

Never been there. Never had a need to use it. And thankfully don't even expect to 8) .

Mind you, the BA lounge is like a smoking lounge. I am so thankful of the Aussie regulations that prohibit smoking in such places.
