what is your preference and why for JQ starclass seat selection Tokyo - cairns with a companion traveller?
 
Row 1, sides as the other seats have someone recline in your face.

agree with row 1 - preferably AB as these are farthest away from the galley (otherwise JK, but if the sides aren't available the middle is fine too).

The major benefit is that after take-off - if you have a standard rolla-board cabin bag, you can place this on the floor and rest your legs on it fully horizontally. Makes for the best sleep possible.
