Points UG from Y to J is still pending (but looking good(ish) with Seat counter showing "9" in J, points-up requested by a QF-SG) So I thought I might garner what wisdom already exists on the best J seating on the a380..

Seat guru is next to useless... One thing I want to know is how hard is it to move from the window into the isle (for nature calls and access to carry on and the bars) when the guy next to you is fully reclined?

Good luck with the upgrade

Rows 11, 12, 13 in the small forward cabin would be my pick and probably the E/F seats because both have access to the aisle so there is no one climbing over you.

If you do get a window seat it is possible to squeeze past the seat when it is fully reclined without actually having to step over it.

It is far easier on the 388 to access the Aisle over a reclined Skybed from a window seat than on the 744. The hand hold in the back of the seat in front is still very useful.

We have recently returned from LAX-SYD on the A380 and was in 11 E/F and the light from the self service bar was bloody annoying every time someone walked through the curtain. We were in 12 E/F on the way over and it was much better (also mostly a day time flight). I personally would choose row 13 if you can get it and I certainly prefer the centre row of seats for not only the aisle access issue but you get an overhead bin or two to yourself. Also, being in the front mini cabin you have good access to the lounge (more of a gimmick than anything useful I think), close to the snack bar and toilets are close behind you but not too close so that you get the smell. You also get to eat relatively early.

I was very happy with 12E on the A380. I had an overhead bin to myself and plenty of room.

On future flights I might be tempted by the window seast. There is lots of room when no lieing flat and fairly easy to to get around when lieing flat.

Don't forget that the window seats have some storage space at the side byt the window which you don't get on the other seats. This would be really useful at the storage bin in the back of the seat in front is too far away to reach when seated.

Just a note on seat selection with upgrade. I have found on the two occasions I've upgraded from Y+ to J that I had no seat selection available - though admittedly both times I was checking in at BA outstations (AMS and FCO) and the check-in agents said they could see no openings.
I found the main J cabin on the 380 perfectly acceptable. In fact I think that with people going to the lounge the forward cabin could have more traffic. Ironically on one flight the lounge seemed to be barely used whereas the other flight the was a great group of people there and things got fairly boisterous.

Well hears a couple of nasty negatives:evil::

Are you in dream land asking about seat choices for a requested upgrade?
QF often fly empty J cabins, but on an upside if you are ex USA the flight is likely to be oversold so maybe that ups your chances.

IMOE cleared upgrades sit where they are told to sit, but others may differ from experience.

In the A380 J cabin; Is there a bad seat??
You basically have direct aisle acess in the 2-2-2 config as mentioned already, with the extra room to manouvre out from the window seat.
Maybe the one near the galleys but maybe try up the front seems a bit more private.

Good luck for the points upgrade.

Au contraire.
Once points upgrades clear seats can be moved using "Select Seats" in MMB and then during OLCI and then during real-life check-in.

Towards the front is a must :) It feels more J like. I've been in 12J and 12 K and they're both great.

Totally agree :)

Just avoid 16EF if you can. If you can't, recline seat as early as possible (lest your legroom become the toilet waiting area... though when you see the 16F toilet, you'll see why people queue up to use it).

Yep... Getting the questions in early so IF the upgrade clears and IF I find I do have a choice I can go in armed with the knowledge here!

Chances are looking as good as they can be with seat counter showing "9"s in J and F virtual empty (what is "C" class?)
D 0 I 0 J 9 R 0 C 9 I 9 F 9

Thanks for all the comments, Exactly the kind of info I need... Row 13 sounds like the sweet point (as said IF available) Pity there is no tool to tell you how tall the bloke next to you is... A check of the weather in LA will also help value the window seat... had some pretty spectacular approaches into LAX and then I have had some where I had to double check that the window shade was open!

C is another Business class fare bcuket - in order of general fare 'value' Qantas J fare buckets are: J C D I U ...

I9 is really good for you - indicate Qantas are prepared to sell Business class for deeply discounted fares - in the weeks/days before a flight this is generally due to lack of sales in the business cabin = seats available for possible upgrades.

hi, am about to try the A380 in J for the first time on QF32 on 19th March from SIN-SYD. I have pre-allocated seat 11K. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this is good. Is there a bulk head in front? Hard to tell on seatguru.I understand 11-13 sounds good as sort of mini J cabin and I love sitting at the window. I understand they have storage at the window, i hope row 11 is not like the old 744 where the storage is narrower at the front. There appears to be plenty of available seats so can change quite easily at this stage. i look forward to some comments.

PS. I will be in the MEL F lounge on march 14th flying to BKK on JQ * class if anyone is around and for that matter in the SIN F lounge on 19th march, if anyone is up for a drink.

Very interesting... manage my trip now shows an extra leg as "Wait-listed U class (J)" Still showing the Y leg as "Upgrade requested" Vaaaary interesting!

Also check out my thread on interpreting EF in advance of a waitlist...

I was unsuccessful after having done a small dance of joy when I had moved to the same situation you are in :(

Still not certain but original Y seat released and able to select 25K (window seat, Wx in LA looking good!) So quietly confident and very excited about first skybed experience!

yep! Upgrade came through!

Must be something going around - I just scored an upgrade to F on tonight's QF9 SIN-LHR.

Just hope that this doesn't use up all my share of luck. I'll need some for my 2 BA flights on the 20th.

Hi Guys - I am taking Mrs Rescue Pilot to LHR on A380 and whilst I requested (am Plat) 12 A 12B have been allocated 24JK (exit) due to "my preference" - unsure how they get this although it is definitely my preference to run away to fly another day if required to use exit!!

Can any of you travel gurus please tell me if these seats are OK as there is only 1 additional seat showing in this cabin (have been advised front cabin totally allocated by friendly Freq Flyer staffer on phone this afternoon - who was upset by Wellington football defeat yesterday)

Any assistance gladly appreciated
