Best itinerary SYD-BOS (via DFW or LAX)?

Our son has a business trip, unfortunately in Y at this date, SYD-BOS.
The QF online booking system returns an itinerary via DFW (747 via BNE from memory?).
Would it be a better choice to try for a good Y seat on the A380 SYD-LAX service then AA to BOS, using the multicity booking option? Or is an LAX transit best avoided?
He is PS but may get SG (still his first year of travel).

Personally I'd suggest going QF7 to DFW (non-stop from SYD), then AA DFW-BOS. He will spend more of his journey on a Qantas aircraft instead of AA - and it will make the AA flight much less painful due to the shorter duration. The 747s that operate the DFW flights have been refitted to match the A380 interiors (as closely as one can on a 747), so the in-flight entertainment will be the newer Panasonic system as opposed to the older system found on the A330s and the standard 747s. Then for the flight home (assuming he didn't want to go anywhere else), he could either travel:
1) BOS-DFW-BNE-SYD (as QF8 from DFW has a stopover in BNE on the flight home)
or 2) BOS-LAX-SYD, with the LAX -SYD segment on the A380 (or 747 depending on the timing and flight number)

This could all be entered on the same multi-city ticket - you don't have to enter and leave the country from the same port - though do try searching both to see what the prices are like.

I think it's just a short staff training visit only - probably over & back in the same week. Hopefully he can get Y+ costs approved.

I was looking at this (in Y+) earlier this year. If the company is paying, and will fund Y+, then another option is SYD-xLAX-JFK on Qantas metal (QF107/8) and a short hop on an AA 737-800 up to Boston Logan airport. This means more time, and transcontinental, on an internationally configured QF 747. If in Y, then the difference would be the meals. If in Y+, there'd be a difference (no Y+ on AA, I think). Points earn is probably similar, but I'd leave it to the more experienced members here (ie., tuppaware and his iPhone app) to verify that.

I think it's also possible to A380 from SYD on QF11, and connect with a layover to QF107? I didn't look at that option. Sometimes QF107 is supposed to be an A380, but not for the next couple of months due to A380 reconfig, I think.

Would have to agree on the recommendation to take the Acela Express.

Took the Acela from New York to Boston last July.

Very comfortable and the view out of the window is much better than the plane, a chance to see some of the countryside.

Head to the Penn St station and take the A line train to Howard Beach then change to the Airtrain.
