I know that Bali has some amazing Aman resorts, but as my partner and I are considering a spare of the moment trip away we are looking at something a little more modest in terms of tariff. Don't want to do too much damage to the credit card lol ;)

Never been to Bali so not really sure what to expect. There seems to be a huge variety of top end luxury options, but the majority are fairly expensive. Does anyone have any good accommodation suggestions for under $600 AUD?

Brief: we love sea views and generally like to have a balcony. Generally prefer to be close to the action too, should we choose to hit the town/nightlife.

Bali is a real contrast. The riff raff stay at Kuta, the rest scattered in Nusa Dua all the way up to Ubud.

Try the Ritz Carlton or Intercon for a decent room. I take it you want a resort style relax?

The 'best' will cost you over $2k per night

Yeah the Intercontinental caught my eye - for the dates were looking at, we can get a "Balinese suite" for $500 USD, which is within budget.

...but it looks quite leafy i.e. no real sea views. Maybe i'm asking for too much with my limited budget?

Very nice. Do you have IHG status? go for an upgrade, write to GM before leaving. They will also pick you up a the airport and checkin there. Club access?

dollar is a good rate as well

Yeah we have IC status (Plat) - it comes with the Amex. Only ever stayed at a IC once before, and that was in HK, a very very nice experience. Thats why i'm interested in this one.

Write to the GM before leaving? Have you done this before?

Make sure you sign up for the Ambassador program if you choose the IC, free internet, room upgrades etc along with the 25000 point promo help add value.

$600 per night is a lot to spend in Bali. Try a hotel in Seminyak or even a villa. You can get Villas that have seaviews for that type of coin.

How do you get PC Platinum with AMEX? I thought you only get PC Gold with Amex Platinum Charge. Went to Bali last yr, was off peak and in GFC, managed to get some really cheap deals in 4* for <AUD$50 per night which i thought was crazy. Not sure if you can still find them, but i would suggest the price difference between 4* and 5* is phenomenal. Not sure if the quality reflects that though, however i wouldn't know. To me, at the time, it was a no brainer.

Centurion comes with Plat, but as far as I am aware Plat really means nothing anyway (with Ambassador being the top dog).

What did you think of the 4* accommodation?

IIRC Ambassador / Royal Ambassador only relates to IC properties. PC Plat is indeed the top status for non-IC IHG hotels.

haydensydney - the 4* i stayed in was Novotel Benoa, which, looking at the website photos, is a pretty accurate reflection of what it looks like in real life. Beaches were nothing great (compared to the ones you get here in aussie). I would say the quality beats most 4* here hands down. But as i said earlier, i don't know what the 5* resorts in Bali is like, i can imagine it would be much nicer, but again not sure if the degree of improvement over the 4* justifies the significantly higher premium.

Flashware - you are correct. However PC Plat is useful for non-IC chains, like Crowne Plaza, HI etc.

Hayden, as a kinda frequent traveller to Indonesia, I can say that $500 per night will buy you a lot of hotel! Don't be fooled into believing only the western brand names will be good, have a look at websites like agoda and asiarooms, not for the bookings rather the customer reviews.

In Jakarta for example, 5* park royal mini suite will set you back approximate $275 per night with exc access and breakfast. Marriott is about the same. The equivalent Asian chains for that spend will put you into a full suite.

Sabah is much nicer than Bali ;)

Bali Villas of Excellence in Seminyak

We stayed there for $250 per night in total for 4 people. The villas are lovely with private pool, chef who cooks you breakfast every day, express customs clearance, private transfers each way from airport and one free in villa massage for 4. The price has probably gone up as that was 2 years ago but wont be anywhere near $600.

Message me and I will give you the guys contact details. He is in Sydney.
