Hey braintrust!

Looking to stay in Melbourne CBD for work (but also a day or two of leisure after) for a few days in August. Currently considering four properties that are quite competitive with the current sale:
- Sofitel is coming around $260 p/n, tempting as a Platinum given lounge perks
- The city Pullman is only $180 p/n and still has a lounge, but seems not many recommend?
- The Melbourne central ibis is dirt cheap at $95 p/n. Small room so probably can't work for long in there, but for that price, maybe it's worth giving up the lounge and amenities? Location seems great too
- Movenpick $160 p/n. Pool looks really nice, but again no lounge, so debating if I'd trade it for lounge at pullman.

Just keen to hear people's opinions on the list so far, and if you have another property you prefer, chime in! I realise I covered a pretty wide range from cheap to luxury haha

Sofitel, great views including the loo with a view in the men’s. If value is your aim the Ibis at the top of town usually has large rooms and apartments going cheap.

I always stay at the Sofitel (I write this now from my room in at the Sofitel).

Downsides are the bathrooms are on the small and dated size in the standard rooms. They all have a shub too. That's a deal breaker for some. Also no pool if that's important.

Do you have status? I really like the Sofitel lounge.

I've been close to staying at the city Pullman but pictures make it look like it doesn't have a desk to work at potentially.

ibis - rooms are small but the room I was given only had a stool, not a chair, so can't really work in there

Pullman - I was given a room without a desk but the lounge is suitable for working in, it is quiet and has nooks and crannies

Sofitel - I was given a suite upgrade with desk and dining table so no problems working from the room, the lounge is a large open space and busy during dining sessions, not sure if it's open outside of those time

Movenpick - haven't stayed
