We're travelling shortly on the A380 in Business, and from the loads, I can see we're almost certain to be upgraded to F.

We are travelling with our 13 month old (who's great on planes), and we know 5A has the bassinet seat, which is currently free.

However, all other "A" seats are taken, so ideally we would have allocated 4A and 5A.

What are our best options here? I'm thinking:
1. Take 5A and 5F, and leave the divider down. Not ideal, as we'd have to walk through the galley all the time.
2. Forego the bassinet, and take two K seats. Not ideal, as he'll sleep a good chunk of the flight
3. Is it an option to ask if Qantas will move the passenger in 4A? I've been asked to shift before to seat a couple together when in F (mind you, only 3A to 2A), so I know they do in some circumstances.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

The divider is like knee height, at best? So I don’t think you’d automatically need to be walking through the galley all the time.

You could ask on board if a passenger is willing to move.

The bassinet is inside the bulkhead, it's like putting them in a cupboard 😂 we didn't bother with our 6 month old.

We did SYD>SIN in 5F, 5K, and then SIN>LHR in 4A, 5A. We did find sitting in A was far better for spending more time together. So I'd personally go with 2x K seats over being split across the aisle.

Due to the size of the seat we found it easy enough to lie on our side with him just next to us, or sit up at one end while we laid at our feet.
The bassinet is inside that door.

As you know 5A is where the sole F bassinet is.
Assuming Josh13month fits in the bassinet, I would recommend 5A or 5F but forgeoing the bassinet is also not a bad idea in which case F/K is good.

Some say the 5A bassinet is smaller - see post #20 than the bassinet in J
Your 13 month old might not fit in it - how tall and weight? The weight limit is typically 11kg and length 71cm.

Yes way too small

Flew with 18 months, we took an F and a K opposite, it worked very well. Advise was that the bassinet is not really suitable. Maybe for a 6 months it s ok?. Baby slept at the bottom of the bed, you can even use the bottom seat belt (normally used for companion seating during dinner) to loop the baby seat belt, if belt is a concern. Bed is big and wide. Just make sure to ask the staff to put the matress toper before putting baby to bed. We forget, had dinner in one suite, then realised too late the mistake with baby deep asleep

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much, these have been super helpful responses. The little guy is at the boundary of bassinet size, so if the F ones are smaller, we'd definitely not use it then

Yes - I was thinking we could put him to sleep (with a seatbelt) in one suite, and lunch/dinner together in the other.

The only question left for me is so we go 2x K or F + K. The suite entrances seem to be offset from the other so not directly opposite. And I'm generally not a huge fan of the F seats (a lot less privacy), so I'm thinking we do 2x K, hopefully 4K and 5K, as there would be less passenger traffic there at least (toilets up the front).

Thanks all!

The space is also big enough for a little stroller if he feels more comfortable in it.

2x K or F + K.
Not a big difference.
A lot of F passengers ruminate for hours over seat selection. In the end it matters little

I can see we're almost certain to be upgraded to F.
Might be Moot.
What makes you certain you will be upgraded to F?
I would suggest the chances that you won't are greater. You wont be the only ones with an upgrade application.
