Hi Benny,

As welcome as you are on this board (and also the other board), you seem to be approaching everything from the one point of view, namely corporate travel.

Just bear in mind that some of us pay for our own travel, some of us have restrictive travel policies with regard to which airlines we fly with, and some of us have carte blanche.

Whilst this might be an "Australian Frequent Flyer" board, not all of us are Australian, and some of us are leisure travellers.

It might be worthwhile tempering your comments accordingly.

thadocta,

Sorry if I've offended anybody.

Firstly, I presumed this discussion group was targetted at the "frequent flyer". Typically, this would include all those people actually fly frequently, which excludes many leisure travellers. Qantas recognise that most of their revenue and frequent flyers come from the corporate market. So i'm sorry if you feel in don't fall into this category and find my information is of little value.

Secondly, reading through the posts on here, it seems that many subscribers do ask questions concerning their corporate deals and how they work. I am happy to provide over 7 years experience in management at Qantas and in fact take pleasure in helping others through the maze of corporate and frequent travelling. Something I did for a living for many years.

Thadocta, I'm really sorry if I've stepped on your toes, I'll now leave so that you can once again rule the roost.

Take care and good luck with your travels.

Benny

As someone who manages an Aviation Department for a large multi national (many times bigger than Qantas) I understand the frustrations of dealing with senior management decisions that are on occasions quizzical at best. The challenge for us all is to use our shared knowledge to improve the situation for all of use and where possible improve the operations of our respective companies and help ourselves at the same time. Most companies do actually listen, at least some of the time.

Benny,

thadocta doesn’t rule the roost here and neither does anyone else. Everyone will agree however that he is very strongly opinionated and doesn’t take kindly to anyone challenging his views. Like most, I’m not in a position to contest either of your levels of knowledge and I’m sure there is a lot of fact in both.

From my perspective I appreciate your input and encourage you to continue with appropriate comments that you know are correct.

thadocta,

There have been a number of occasions when people have made statements on this forum that you disagree with. That is your prerogative and indeed your right because that’s what the forums are for. I (and I’m sure others agree) thing that you jump down the throats of those who challenge your ideas, much too quickly and much too harshly. To use your own words
It might be worthwhile tempering your comments accordingly.

There is a wealth of information available and the fact that an individual challenges another is frequently good, if the challenge is done politely and with the correct intent. There is never any excuse for becoming personal and obusive.

I never said I rule the roost - but I got to Gold from 95% leisure travel, with the only non-leisure travel being flights to MEL and LHR to officiate at the Australian Open and Wimbledon respectively.

All I was asking that he not approach everything from the perspective of the corporate traveller all the time.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hmm, better go find out what all the fuss is about. Did I miss the excitement?

straitman, an excellent measured dissection of the situation, with which I wholeheartedly agree.

We are all entitled to express our opinions, knowledge or questions for the betterment of our board members.

thadocta, I know where you are coming from, but if you were on FT, I'm sure Willyroo would have cautioned you similarly to the way straitman has done. Admin here might want to let discussion flow a little longer (being a smaller forum, or merely that they haven't caught up with the discussion yet  ). I'm sure that you recall the basic tenet of FT about personal attacks...

Being that I have met thadocta on a couple of occasions, I feel I am justified to make comment here.

I don't know what you mean, Lindsay - I am just being - as per normal for me - my usual paragon of decorum, tact and discretion. Would you have me any other way? :D

Lindsay, am certainly following the discussion

Generally, I don't like to get involved and prefer to let things flow - provided there is no serious personal abuse, vulgarity, racism, deliberate mis-information. However, there have been times that I have (privately) warned contributers, deleted offensive postings, closed discussions, and even banned members.

Agreed here, I have referred several such questionable posts to you, and you have responded accordingly.

I don't see anything in what I have posted in this thread requiring the intervention of anyone else. All I basically said was "Don't just assume that we are all corporate flyers, some of us aren't, try and broaden your advice."

Nothing wrong with that is there?
