I just came across this old Ansett ad from 1992 advertising that you could redeem your miles to fly on "the four greatest airlines", BA, UA, CX and AN. I recall my parents using miles to fly UA to NY in about 1994 in business.

Cool, the old retro livery on those aircraft.
 
Nice. Love the good old days when you rang someone up - on the landline of course - to do anything.

First trip on CX bagged me some AN points, and a seat on one of the chesterfields in the CX lounge at Kai Tak.
