Yes, I'd like to arrive as part of a contingent. I'll be heading up from Canberra, if the details work out, so I'll check back in once I know when and where I'll be :)

Congrats to the winners. Now what were the winning answers?

My answers were about my carry on:
My essentials to have on board flying to Mars would be:
My Earth passport. Gotta get a stamp at Mars immigration.
QF PJ's to go under my space suit.
Intergalactic power converter in case the Mars Westin does not have one.
Some Martian Currency so I dont have to go to the money changers at the space station.
My QF FF card to ensure I get into the new QF lounge at Mars for the return journey. My FF number is xx_xx_XX

"Essentials to take on a trip? Nothing*. Every single member of Qantas staff know how to meet every contingency and desire for their WP and WP1 flyers. Like clear lounge access guidance, clear baggage limits on code share (damn, not J* to Mars this trip is it?), priority luggage (I do NOT want to have to wait for unnecessary HL luggage to catch up from its diversion from Jupiter), and priority boarding (don't want to have to wait for all those NBs)."

*Except stripey beanie and hi-viz vest.

Mine was: "At first, the obvious things came to mind: an exhaustive media and ebook library, my husband, a Neil Perry-inspired menu, an onboard masseuse and a good collection of electronic board games. But: No, wait! If I take *nothing* but a good supply of paper and pens then perhaps I'll finally make some progress on that novel that I've always been meaning to write. There's nothing like a long flight for forcing getting some real work done."

Anyone been in contact with QF to determine arrival times into SYD for out of state winners etc?

No, same here, not yet. Though sitting by the phone, composing my last essay before the holidays which start tomorrow! :) Just found out that I'm not actually down to work on Friday, so I can relax and return home at any leisurely hour...

My answer, for those who are desperate to know:

If I were flying to Mars,
you ask,
With Curiosity and not my Tardis;
What would I take,
you ask?

It's a difficult question,
I say.
I know more about cars than rockets or space.
Would ice-cream melt,
I ask?

Or maybe it would survive,
I say,
Since Mars is so cold and further from the Sun.
Would that be all,
you ask?

There would be more of course,
I say.
My Qantas card and perhaps a teddybear.
Are you so sure,
you ask?

A Lonely Planet guide too,
I cry.
Or I'll get lose and wander off in the dust!
Like a drover,
you smirk?

That wouldn't be so funny,
I say.
Without my Hilton status, where could I sleep?
At a hostel,
you ask?

In that case a towel as well,
I feel.
A good book, my smartphone, and Mum's apple pie.
You lick your lips.
You like?

I'd better pack a spoon too,
I think.
And the cat, but don't tell the check-in lady.
Some company,
you cry!

That would be all, I suppose.
You nod.
Aside from some good hiking shoes and a bag,
I am now ready.

significance, Batesy, Kefci2000, Isochronous, Catweazle & AirKat.

Assuming I can sort out connections (I live about 3 hrs from MEL) I will be joining you Thursday evening.

As someone suggested it would be good to catchup before hand but realise this is not always possible. I have successfully avoided Sydney for most of my life so don't know it particularly well, so would be at someones mercy regarding where/when.

I'll post again when I know more.

(Day corrected thanks to Catweazle)

Straitman - great idea, only it's July 13th most of us arrive in Sydney, not Wednesday. At least, that's my plan (for you other 5, check your emails ;)).

Sydney's inner CBD is not too bad, providing you don't get lost in the outer suburbs or down another oneway street! George St goes north and south, pretty much, and all those Four Seasons, Marriott, Shangri La, Quay West are situated down near Circular Quay, so look up into the sky and see if you can see any of those hotels and follow your nose! Once at the waterfront where the ferries all leave from, with the Opera House and the Bridge, you can generally get your bearings somewhat or at least ask directions if solo.

Have a look on Google Maps to get an idea:

I'm arriving at 14:25pm on QF434, at this stage. If any others are arriving around that time, should we share a cab downtown, or meet at the hotel?

I'll be arriving at 14:10 on QF1478. Happy to share a cab or else just take the train and meet at the hotel.
Tossing up whether to put in a leave application for the afternoon off work or whether to count it as unofficial time in lieu, since I worked all long weekend. Hmm.

Thanks for sorting out my days for me. Thursday is actually a whole lot easier for me. It's going to be a long day as I will catch the bus from home at 6:55am.

My flights and accom are:
13 June QF434 – departing Melbourne at 1300 and arriving in Sydney at 1425; and
14 June QF431 – departing Sydney at 1200 and arriving back in Melbourne at 1335.

Staying at the Sofitel.

Got an email from QFF with the details. Suggest we meet at the Sofitel at 5pm for the 6pm start.

Okay. Is anyone familiar with the Sofitel lobby? Is it small or quiet enough that it will be obvious who our fellow frequent flyers are, or do we need to exchange phone numbers or descriptions by private message?
