Bassinette Seats on Jetstar

Im flying Jet*, *Class in March and travelling with my 6 mth old baby, wife and 4 year old daughter. Row 1 both ways are already taken. Does anyone know if there is a policy that pax travelling with infants get priority over these seats?

Has JQ customer service been advised of the need for a bassinet on your reservation?

Opps should have put that in, I did call them, they made a note for airport staff but they said it will be up to them.

If it is Jetstar to HNL for example. if you phone reservations and tell them, they will shift non-baby pax who have taken row 1.

If you're in Star Class why can they not allocate the first row where the bassinet is now?

If it's left up to airport staff they can only allocate seats that have not already been taken & what's the bet someone has already jumped in by doing it at the time of reservation.

No experience with Jetstar *Class but I've just been through the process of adding an infant with a bassinette request into a series of QF flights later in the year.

When I originally booked I asked to be assigned the bassinette seats on each flight, and was told that although they would perform the assignment if someone else came along with an infant I would be automatically moved out of those seats.

When our daughter was born I rang back to add her details into the booking, and the bassinette seats were confirmed.

It appears that general airline policy is that a passenger with an infant who actually requires a bassinette seat will get priority for that seat over someone who has already been allocated that seat but does not require it for an infant.

I was also advised that if another passenger had already allocated the bassinette seat when I added my daughter to my booking that the allocation could be over-ridden at that time, rather than waiting until check-in. The only issue would have been if another passenger travelling with an infant and with higher status had already taken the seat.

I know this isn't specific Jetstar *Class advice but I would have thought that they would operate in a similar manner.

I suppose on QF it just depends what carries more weight a FFPL or CLQF with or even without an infant who want the bulkhead because they like it versus people with infants regardless of FF status.

Keep in mind that you may get a last minute aircraft substitution eg on QF the 767 aircraft have 3 different configurations so you may have 1, 2 or 4 bassinets onboard an aircraft.

Bassinets are mostly suitable for infants up to and including 6 months of age so if there are several infants the airline may elect to allocate the bassinet to the youngest baby.

Not all people request bassinets however you would think an airline, when allocating these bassinets would look at firstly who has actually requested one and secondly what infant age wise is most suited to it.

Plenty of parents with infants 18 months and over still request bassinets because they like being at the front of the plane but it's a bit pointless not to mention selfish if it deprives a genuine infant of those seats.

In any case do your best to have one allocated, keep checking your pnr for any changes & definitely web check at your earliest opportunity - possession is nine tenths of the law.

We requested with JQ (HNLSYD) 10 months in advance for Bassinette and was all confirmed.

Did the same with QF and was on request. Found out 4 months out it had been confirmed but were moved as a platinum FF had requested the seats. Needless to say we weren't happy.

I think what is happening here is that row one is not showing available because JQ block it off to allocate to legitimate people travelling with infants. So just because it's not showing available on the web doesn't mean it's already allocated.

Then someone rings up like you, they unblock the seats & allocate it to you.

Now row 1AB in Starclass on the Airbus A330 (widebody jet twin aisles) is just a normal row but row 1 on the Airbus A320 (narrowboy jet single aisle) doesn't have a bassinet and I believe that 1ABC is classed as an emergency exit row so you would not be able to sit there with an infant or child under 15 in any case. 1DEF might be a different story though...

I got bumped because pax and pax +1 required bassinett positions.

So you got bumped by a couple, where one of them didn't need the bassinet seat.

We were travelling with our little one on a domestic 767 QF flight to Perth so a long flight.

We had bassinet position in economy - front row, 23? from memory.

I enquired about a points upgrade (in the Lounge) to J which was doable but I said it was only on condition that we are given one of the 2 bassinets in business class.

One bassinet had a baby and the other bassinet had a Chairman's Lounge member - a federal court judge I think.

They were not prepared to ask the Chairman's Lounge member to move so I declined the upgrade.

On board we were treated very well - hot meals on Perth flight and given alcohol from business.

When travelling with a very young infant the bassinet is worth more in my view.

Advance apologies for raising this thread from the dead.

Have a similar dilemma to the OP - our first trip with Djf Jr (@~10 weeks) no bassinette seats available on JQ29/30 on the online seat map in StarClass (plenty of others free though), and the first person I called simply put a note on our booking - which others above seem to suggest is nigh on useless.

FWIW, and I know it's not much on Jetstar, both of us are WP - and we did pay the nominal extra fare for the infant, which we're hoping is a flag to them that we needed the bassinette in the first place.

How did the OP go in sorting this out? Anyone else have experience with Jetstar StarClass bassinette allocations? Am trying to call back and follow up as suggested earlier, but for partly obvious reasons am having a hell of a time trying to get through to their call centre right now...

From my memory when EBJ (same config as JQ 332) was in QF colours, Business featured 2 Bassinet's 1AB JK. I've observed a few times of the pax asking the crew to change to the bassinet seat - they were unsuccessful at checkin. Guess that's also an avenue you could explore?
