Platinum
My apologies for gloating ... but the QF web site confirmed today that I have achieved Platinum (FIVE days before my end-of-year-everything-disappears date!).

Last two years, I managed Gold with a "double status credit" offer at a strategic time. This year - much to my amazement - I have achieved Platinum, with a "1.5 status credit" offer only applicable to the flight I did this week SYD-SIN-KUL and back.

I do lots of domestic flying on QF and quite a lot SYD-AKL flying on QF (usually on EK metal). Most of my other overseas flying is Star Alliance.

Any hints for making the most of Platinum?

Thank you,

Michael

Congratulations on making WP. :D

First thing you will see is seating getting better - row 4 / 25 on those Domestic economy segments ...

Here's a 2-step guide:
1- Book a cheap international flight (e.g AKL)
2- Run to your nearest airport and enjoy the F lounge (in SYD according to your profile).

Rinse and repeat

Most WP benefits I find come from international travel - the better seat selection is of greater benefit, services if there is a hassle are better (but still not necessarily able to fix a problem the way you might want it) and access to all OneWorld F lounges regardless of class of travel makes most airports more tolerable. And access to EK lounges too ... I forget the access rules but in SIN for example, the EK lounge is usually an oasis of calm when the QP there turns into the nightly zoo.

Congratulations Michael, though - of course - this is only the start, next comes the urge to retain.

For me, mostly flying Domestic, I appreciate the PB (yes it *does* mostly work!) and the J Lounges. I've also found both the ground staff and Platinum line excellent when things go awry.

Enjoy!

Regards,

BD

Congrats ...... what is life like on the other side of the fence ... i smell roses and hear birds singing songs ..... back in gold, all we can hear is the rustle of vb cans and wini blues .. enjoy

Congrats, enjoy it while the shine lasts - it won't take long until you start grumbling about the loss of benefits like the rest of us :)

Congrats mdurrant!
Those SYD-AKL flights are going to get much more enjoyable after a visit to the F lounge :)

Its ok to gloat.
By end of Dec, I am going to gloat while I sit at QF SG for 12/a bit more months.
Its easy to get the climb started, short distance from 350 to 700, but you are lucky to get to WP, fair climb from 700 to 1200.
At least you get entry to the QFi SYD F lounge, dog drool now happening, mmm!
Must be a nice difference the F lounge compared to the QFi SYD J lounge.

EDIT: Most important, when you book the EK flights to AKL, always and I mean always book it on the QF website, and always ensure you are chasing a QF flight number flight, not an EK flight.
This will help you get to P1.
Though the SC earn flying OW now is much lower since Jul 14, can you pick to fly OW airline where QF does not fly, rather than flying *A? Or fly EK with a QF flight code rather than a *A flight number?

Give CX a shot too. They have been generous with upgrading me to J. I have been generous with getting 2 out of 4 legs upgraded this year

Besides death and taxes there are two other things in life that are certain. With no other member will you find posts that are:

  1. In regular, italicised, bold or underlined typefaces - and all four if you're lucky
  2. About taking trans-Tasman EK flights on QF codeshare so you can chase status credits

And just remember, it's Status Credits, not Status Points!
