Seems AA have rolled out changes for bookings commencing 18 May 2026

That removes status benefits (priority check-in, seat selection). Simple Flying seems to believe this extends to other Oneworld elites.

No mention of lounge access (which is not a benefit for AA elites) and baggage benefits seem to stay.

Now that their is no spirit why do they have to go down to the bottom of the barrel in benefits.

It seems like previous loyalty those Lifetime 1 Million and 2 million milers get screwed although its unlikely to effect those who appreciated status but its pretty bad.

Perhaps because there is no Spirir? No need to offer something that differentiates from them any more.. in any event Frontier and Allegiant still exist.

There may be one redeeming factor from this for people in my situation. I am most unlikely (close to 100% unlikely) to ever book such a fare from American Airlines. But I am likely to redeem AAdvantage miles for a flight, and AAdvantage now uses dynamic aware pricing for reward redemption. So the lower the price in $$$ terms, the lower the miles pricing for an award on the same flight. And award redemption tickets do still come with most of the status benefits.

And for those booking non-basic economy tickets presumably also means less people on the upgrade lists.

Is noted a is status as time of booking and not status on date of travel. Which could lower, same or higher than when was booking made.
Is for tickets purchased before 18 May. But an exception for QF from 24 June.
