Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

Quick question for those of you using Telstra...

On your monthly Telstra bill, do you get each transaction itemised or a daily total? When I was using EA they rolled up 50 daily 1c transactions to a single line of 50c. I am using Telstra at the moment but have no visibility of the bill - it is not mine.

Went to branch today with an inlaw (retired, lives hours away).

Asked to downgrade the card..

- you can't downgrade, as you have a basic... (?)
- Only if you have a platinum credit card.... (?)
- We can downgrade you to a pensioner account.... (????)

I mentioned that the card staff was holding said platinum on it, means we cound downgrade!

Long story short:

- Was asked to choose card colour
- what do you usually press when using the account, chq or savings.. (again... ???) (I mentioned Chq)
- When your new card arrives, just shred your current card.

Have they changed the system to auto cancel cards changed in store???

I'd be concerned about that. The Qantas Bankwest Debit card only comes in Orange for standard and Black for platinum. The cards with colour options are non-Qantas.

Don't stress. Last year I ordered another card via BOB & I was given a choice of colours. I chose black. The card works fine, even though "Qantas" isn't written in the top left corner on the front of the card (or anywhere on the card, for that matter) & it's not orange.

I'm just getting into this. Trying with Optus but it looks like they've got some sort of threshold on how many transactions you can do per day. I got about 8 transactions through in about 20 minutes just after midnight last night. Haven't been able to do any since, I get a message saying "Your payment cannot be processed at this time."

Anyone got guesstimates as to what their criteria are? X per day? No more than X per hour?

If that restriction is anything near correct, then Optus isn't going to really be practical for industrial scale use of this method.
As far as I know from reading other's posts, Telstra (my personal favourite) and Energy Australia are the only currently known workable suppliers.

Appreciate the input. It's entirely possible I got to 10 transactions, as I was doing some testing. It's been a lot longer than 3 hours since my last transaction, but maybe I've been flagged. If it's 10 transactions per 3 hours that's completely workable for me, but I'll do some testing along those lines tomorrow.

My health fund takes payments with a 5 cent minimum. ??Fortunately?? health cover is expensive so I'll be able to rack up 50 of those a day if they don't block me. Fingers crossed as I don't use Telstra or Energy Australia. My energy company wants an invoice number to be entered. =(

10 per day per account is my best guess. Of course some of us have multiple accounts.

Thanks for the info. Who thought bundling services would have a downside. Health cover payments look solid for me, I've clocked my 50 for today. That should keep me happy unless I end up with an absurd amount of cards. (I think that might be the proverbial Step 2.) Only have one currently and will look to get more if things are working smoothly. It seems like getting multiple accounts for one person may not be possible any more so I'll have to sign up the wife.

I haven't tested anything, but my suspicion is it will work like interest where it's calculated on the minimum monthly balance.

No that's not correct. The Qantas points accrue daily - "0.4 Qantas Points for every whole amount of $100 making up the daily balance at the end of each day".

As for whether it's worth it - IMHO it's definitely not worth it given the opportunity cost of not having that money in a mortgage offset account, or even for use in other investments.
