Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

... Record step by step and you can let it play 50 times instead of manual input all the detail ...

Er, no. Play once, then refresh the receipt page at least 49 times.

You can even have a macro do the refreshing, using the following commands:

REFRESH
WAIT SECONDS=3

The WAIT command causes the macro to wait 3 seconds before executing the next step. It helps to avoid an error caused by refreshing the receipt page before it has finished loading.

How are people getting 2 cards? I just called and asked about the Platinum Debit card to be added to my account and it would then shut down the Normal Debit card.

Or are people signing up multiple family members for qantas transaction accounts but using the same Frequent Flyer number?

Its all in this thread somewhere, sorry but I don't know where.

On your last question though, it wouldn't allow this as names need to match (and I suspect you cant add a QFF # which is already used). Not that you really need to do this with QF family transfers.

Walk onto a branch and upgrade. Then forget to ring them when your new card arrives, to cancel your old card.

New + old = 2

What is the advantage of having 2 cards though when they are connected to the same account....as the 1 account still only does 50 transactions. Does each card give you 50? Sorry I've been reading this thread all day but so much info is scattered across 200+ pages.

The daily limit is 50 transactions per card, not per account. If you can get a second card to be posted (platinum and normal) they will have different card numbers, hence 100 transactions per day.

50 + 50 = double per day ;)

Ahh awesome thanks guys. So I currently just do the telstra paymybill page and enter in my bank west account details and imacro does that 50 times each day. So in theory when I get a debit card, I could use another service for another 50 transactions to get double. (I'm hoping haha)

Your account details or your card details? It will only work if you use your card, not direct debit from your bank account.

Do you mean with Telstra, you just initiate one payment and then refresh 49 times to "re-initiate" the transaction and complete the 50 daily transactions?!

I think he thinks 50x daily limit is per merchant. It's a limitation on your card, so you can only do a total of 50 transactions on each card you have. So if for whatever reason you insist on doing it over two separate merchants, you could do 25x at one place, and then 25x somewhere else.

If you go to the telstra paymybill page you can enter in the BSB and Account number and it will deduct it from your account.

If you do this, all you achieved is to pay telstra and not earn any points from bankwest - are you sure this is what you want?

Why is that? It's a transaction. I will wait for debit card then.

This transaction you refer to is a 'payment' directly from the bank account, just like any direct debit/ pay anyone transaction from the bank account
To earn point, you need to make a purchase using the debit card (as if it were a credit card)
If you still cannot see the difference between the 2, I'm sure other members can explain better

Ahh I see. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the clarification.

I've had one of these accounts for well over a year - have been reaping a thousand or so points a month just having cash sitting in there but haven't used it for transactions... and now stumbling across the pot of gold in this thread.

My understanding is, I can use this to pay 50 x 1c transactions per day off my Telstra bill, using the Telstra website, and thus earn 250 points per day (7500 per month) for $15 worth of transactions. Am I correct?

Couple of questions about the Telstra side of things. My Telstra account is currently set to direct debit from one of my credit cards each month. Should I cancel this? Does Telstra allow the account to go into a positive balance?

Now I just need to find the actual card, which I have never used except for a test when I first activated it in 2014. I'm sure I have it stashed away somewhere.

Spot on.

You may need to cancel the direct debit and do it manually - does anyone know if Telstra would debit the outstanding amount after taking into account the ~$15 of transactions, or still debit the full statement balance?

Cheers.
Have cancelled my direct debit now. Unfortunately my last Telstra account was paid on the 5th of April so I now have zero outstanding.
Do I have to wait for my next bill in a couple of weeks or can I start making account payments now using my Bankwest card and put it in a positive balance?

Try it and see. I think it will work.

I don't think you needed to cancel the direct debit. I doubt that your direct debit would have been for a fixed amount. More like balance owing. For example, if you had lots of overseas roaming one month I'm sure Telstra's computers would manage to extract the correct amount for the direct debit. No different if you owe less in any particular billing cycle.

Thanks.
Next ignorant question.. whereabouts are you actually making the Telstra payments? In the My Telstra page "Pay My Bill" section?

This page tells me there is a "debit card and credit card fee" of $2.332. Now surely this is not per transaction or it makes the whole thing ridiculous. Is this a once a month fee covering all debit/credit card payments? Or is there some way of avoiding it completely?

Debit card and credit card fees

When paying with a debit card or credit card you’ll be charged a service fee in addition to any payment processing fee that may apply (see table below).
To avoid paying a debit card or credit card service fee you can set up Direct Debit or pay via PayPal.
