Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

Well yes, but until it does, still trying to get as much return as I can without prepaying $1 per transaction. Any retailer with 1c or 10c minimum payment would be still good.

Bizarrely, the account's still open a week after BW said it would be closed (13/09).

Could the FOS have had a word with BW, about closing accounts just 5 days after the account holder receives the notification?

This account is still open, 4 weeks after BW said they would close it. They even charged the account keeping fee on Oct 1, so the balance is now -$6.

I may have a way for those willing to donate 50c a day to continue 1c transactions. It is early days and I am testing the water with my account first. I will let you know how it goes.

Interested! Let me know how you go :)

Made a few transactions this morning for my account which was still open despite due for closure in mid September. Just logged in and account has been closed.

Any others whose account was still open, and has just been closed today?

interested in this as well. please feel free to PM me once you figure it out!

The surprise gift from BW on the 5th has been reversed today. It appears that if you moved them across to a different account (leaving the account empty) you will keep the points, but if left in the account deposited they have been reversed.

Such a low act by *ankbest, i'm bitterly disappointed

I don't think that reversing points incorrectly credited is a low act, in fact it's very reasonable. Why would you expect to keep points that were accidentally delivered to your QFF account?

If BW wanted to reverse thousands of points earned on transactions made, however, that would be a different matter.

Tried that. They told me i was indefinitely banned to do so

Snaps for trying!

It does seem bankwest have reversed the accidental bonus. I guess the reversals were declined by Qantas for accounts that didn't have the points anymore.

Hopefully bankwest just accept that this is done and dusted and move on, like the rest of us will.

I believe their intention was to, in fact, remove the points that we had rightly earned on the account. Let's hope they just leave what's done behind us. I'll be the first to start legal action against them should they try it agai

Kick 'em when they're down, eh?

They're a bank, not a charity.

For whatever reason they've decided to cease these accounts which they're entitled to do. The lack of communication is frustrating but again they have done all they were required to do, just as we as customers have.

They have again clearly mishandled the closing of these accounts by not managing the transfer of points to Qantas. It does appear that they were trying to reverse something that was earned while fully complying with the terms and conditions of their product (and something they were permitting for a number of years).

There were plenty of people who this bank "kicked while they were down" during the GFC. I can't say I've got any sympathy for a company that really should have known better.

Not just companies. Consider the original post, to which I responded:

I stand ready to wage legal jihad against anyone who has their precious QFF stolen from them by Bankwest!
Sounds like rubbing salt into the wounds to me!

It sure is quiet in here since BW shut almost everyone's account(s).

And Telstra killed off 1¢ payments. (Or has some creative person managed to resurrect them?)

That's hilarious given how these these points were gained in the first place. Legal action- I would love to see that play out.

"I made hundreds of thousands of $0.01 transactions by using a macro in order to get 5 points per transaction instead of just conducting one legitimate transaction. I also had to get multiple cards to do this as I used them so much that they had to be replaced as I had exceeded their lifetime transaction volume limit. At one point I had multiple debit cards attached to my account. I have done nothing wrong because the system let me use the macro and make hundreds of thousands of transactions. I want my points and I don't understand why BWA have closed my account even though they are within their rights to do so"

Read the T's and C's of the BWA product. BWA are acting appropriately. They also have every right to pursue those who misused their products for gains that they were not entitled to. The question is how Qantas will treat these customers now as they could legitimately claw back ill gained points on behalf of BWA.

You will now argue that the points were all legit and you were doing the right thing and then use this emoticon :)
