But the reason for staying the extra night was to see one of our other families grand child. I got a partner in the practice at Buderim in ~ 1995 He is Malaysian Chinese his wife English. The had 2 daughters then and subsequently another daughter and son. The year after they arrived the eldest daughter started school. Now for Grandparents day none of hers lived in Australia so she asked us to be her grandparents. So for the next 20+ years we went to Grandparents day. They still call us that,
The third grandaughter is an entertainer and now woks in Universal Studios in Singapore. So she cam and visited us for Evening drinks. We were not charged extra for her lounge visit. We both felt happy to see her.

They solve the grandparents issue at grandsons school by calling it GrandFriends Day. Which was last week.
 
Yes, "carrot cake" is a classic Singapore hawker dish made from daikon radish cake ("white carrot") and eggs. SQ pimps it up with the prawns. It's always a great option for Book The Cook breakfast.

Nope ! I did not like it ! And how it gets the name carrot cake is totally misleading !

The last 4 Refreshment menus I have had on SQ have been the carrot cake and oats with peanut butter. Now fine for breakfast but 2 have been afternoon tea time and 2 about 1.5 hours out of BNE when arrival is after 7pm Brisbane time. There was 1 occasion when I had arrot cake recently and it was for breakfast.I have the carrot cake but on Tuesday declined the refreshment having had the carrot cake the day before.
 
For our stay in Bangkok it will mainly a food pictorial. My mobility limits my previous walks so we would visit malls to keep up the steps. most of the food will be from the Intercontinental lounge. However we did have one lunch at our favourite restaurant Nara. I also had a manicure and pedicure. It is very relaxing. unfortunately the salon we had used for most of the last 20 years in Terminal one had closed. A shame as we had got to know some of the staff. We did find a replacement.

So up to the club for our first evening. The drinks list and the hot canapes menu which goes on a 3 day cycle.

I always started with the G&T-Botanicals. I like the Thai gin. Then I would switch to a Chilean merlot. Mrsdrron always had the Marlborough Sav Blanc. As soon as we were seated our drinks would appear. Some benefits in being a creature of habit.

After breakfast we caught the train to Asoke and went to Terminal 21. A mall that is close to the SGS where e used to stay. lots of good eating with a very good but very busy food court. We were there though to go to the salon where we have had our nails done for many years only to find that it was closed. not to waste our journey we had lunch at Nara our favourite Thai Restaurant. They have only opened in Terminal 21 in the last 3 months.
We always share a pomelo salad with prawns. This time we also had fried chicken with a lime sauc. The sauce was really limey.

That night it was back to the club.

I enjoyed the mushroom soup and the snapper with red curry. Both very tasty.

I decided to go Middle Eastern maybe because I had been reading @Seat0B s TR the night before.
I had the Ful Mudammus and then an olive mixture with some labneh and wat was described as an Arabic pizza.

The next day all we did was walk to the Gaysorn Mall opposite the IC. We needed to go to a supermarket for some deodorant. There are some things that are needed to be done when you go hand carry only. Going down in the lift this time I paid attention. On one side was the old panel which was not in use.

Now in all previous stays you needed to swipe your room key to access your floor or the Club floor. Now there was a lify attendant who used the other side which we were told was a temporary thing as after the earthquake in April the lifts wouldn't operate with the door key.

On the last day both sides were looking normal but key access was not yet operative.
You do see some not so common thing when walking around. Today a pink Porsche.

Friday and time to go to Central world and get our nails done. Just a pedicure for Mrsdrron and pedicure and manicure for me. All up it cost ~ $A100. We also though add a tip. It is really a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

It was a bit hard finding the place as both Google maps and the Central world directory were not exactly accurate. After this Mrsdrron went to one of her favourite shops - Na Ra Ya. They sell bags. Naturally she bought one. In years gone by it was usually several at a time but they were much cheaper then.
It was now a bit after 3pm so only 2 hours to Happy hour so dropped the idea of lunch. Fortunately the main road between Central World and the buildings containing the IC has ovepasses. The traffic is horrendous and any driving rules ar merely suggestionsThis is the traffic heading away from Central World.

A new restaurant had opened on our way back. Normally the have a picture of the king but not this place.

Then to the club for Friday evening. It was jumping. Obviously a large group of Chinese had arrived. You would have thought those that could afford lounge access would behave better than their compatriots at down market buffets. But it was not so. Even before they were seated they would order one of every hot canape on the menu for each person. And then go and collect 2 or 3 full plates of stuff from the buffet. Basically the whole buffet was replaced before 30 minutes were up. I had to be quick to get some hummus. They would scrape the whole bowl onto their plate. The waste was incredible.
But back to our lot.

The Soup was probably made by a different chef tonight as wasn't quite up to usual standards.

On Friday nights they now have a saxophone player with 2 sets in the first hour. He was very good but the acoustics of the club were not that great.
