Hi all

I am i'm struggling!!, I am off to US in about 2 weeks and looking to get max value out of travel from LAX to NYC, im wanting to get as many qantas SC as possible (~800SC+ by time I return to LA is my objective) .
Im happy to reward someone

I would like to be as comfortable as possible, as happy to overnight (would prefer not super early flights.

Too vague.

How many connections do you want? What class of service are you looking at?

You could easily do a LAX-JFK nonstop, or a LAX-DFW-MIA-JFK or LAX-SEA-ORD-JFK to bounce around from airport to airport.

collecting as many Status credits without taking more than 2 days I am not really phased about class of travel (F would be nice, if it were well priced) I guess to put it in perspective happy to spend upto 2k although if can spend less great

You might struggle to get 800 SCs for 2k (assuming 2k AUD) this close to departure.

When you look, aim to get as many flights above 750 miles as SC earning below 750 is pretty poor

Routes like someone mentioned above LAX-DFW-MIA-JFK (270 SCs in First) and LAX-ORD-MIA-JFK (300 SCs in First) are a few routings with flights through major AA hubs.

Best tip is to just play around with potential options on the multi city tool.

Which is precisely why I didn't bother replying.

OK - I'll bite.

Given it's close to departure, I think you'd be better off making two trips - one SC run, and one that involves going to NYC. You haven't specified exact dates or how long you need to be in NYC for, so I've taken a guess.

I hope you like flying! :p

Trip 1: LAX - Panama City - LAX; US$870 Sun Jul 10
- LAX-ORD AA126 (A)
- ORD-BOS AA366 (A) (overnight in BOS)
- BOS-MIA AA2454 (A) Mon Jul 11
- MIA-PTY AA1021 (I)
(3.5hr turnaround in PTY)
- PTY-MIA AA4434 (I)
- MIA-BOS AA1313 (A) (overnight in BOS)
- BOS-ORD AA1155 (A) Tue Jul 12
- ORD-LAX AA1081 (A)

The above will get you 720 SCs, and overnights can be tweaked as needed.

So, for your NYC trip, book a return mixed Y/F ticket from LAX-JFK for around US$800, or a multi-stop Y ticket that books into Economy (not discount economy) to get the remaining SCs. If you choose the Y option, something like LAX-PHX-DFW-JFK return, or LAX-ORD-BOS-JFK return should do.

OR why not turn it into another SC run: :D

Trip 2: LAX - NYC - Bermuda - LAX; US$1061 Thu Jul 14
- LAX-DFW AA2399 (A)
- DFW-JFK AA1345 (A)
(Stay in NYC)
- JFK-BDA AA1609 (I) Wed Jul 20
- BDA-JFK AA1609 (I) (Turnaround or stay..)
- JFK-PHX AA321 (A)
- PHX-LAX AA2086 (A)

The above will get you 540 SCs for a grand total of 1260 SCs. These routings cost US$1931 all up, but it's possible to reduce down to around US$1500 if you only need the 800 SCs (drop the BOS segments and do the multi-stop Y outlined above).

Enjoy!

Can anyone tell me if I get points on all these flights

or if this is a silly way to do it ?

Los Angeles (LAX) – Phoenix (PHX)
Phoenix (PHX) – Denver (DEN)
Denver (DEN) – Phoenix (PHX)
Phoenix (PHX) – Chicago (ORD)?
