Bamboo Airways Delays/Cancellations

Sunday 13 February 2022 has OH89, the 1000 morning flight from MEL to SGN cancelled, although another source suggests that this newish airline returns to MEL next week.

New kid on the block QH88 from SGN down to MEL arrived at 0707, only seven late on Sunday 29 May with B789 VN-A829. However the return QH89, the 1000 hours did not become airborne until 1114 hours so estimated arrival is 1617 hours, 47 minutes behind time.

QH87, the 1130 hours SYD - SGN has been cancelled on Saturday 20 August 2022. Given this airline only operates twice a week, would it simply place passengers on competitor VN?

UPDATE: By 2054 hours, this flight had become operable, but departure was showing at 2000 hours, so later than forecast.

They have a 787 parked up at a remote bay in Sydney, and it’s been there since last Wednesday. Word on the apron is that it’s been repossessed by the lessor.

I have a First membership with Bamboo (status match from my Qantas Platinum). I was hoping that Bamboo would be my airline of choice for trips to Vietnam. I had a free upgrade to the business cabin on a domestic flight in Vietnam recently. Bamboo crew members and ground staff are great, professional and dedicated, much better than QF I must say. Pity that they seem to have a problem at the executive level. The previous owner (Trinh Van Quyet) is currently in jail. There has been some market activities, i thought they have successfully offload the airline to a new owner.

Vietnam arrests chairman of FLC, Bamboo Airways over alleged market manipulation

Too risky to operate several long haul routes with only 3 capable aircraft. if indeed, one is repossessed, this airline will be gone. Domestically, there is also lots of competition.

QH86, the Friday 9 September 1855 hours SGN-SYD took off at 2208 with B789 VN-A818. Arrival on Saturday 10 should be shortly at 0907 hours, 162 minutes late. Thankfully QH87 returning is not due to depart until 1130, showing the advantage of a longer than minimum turnaround in minimising delays when inbounds are late.

Sunday 21 May 2023's QH82, the 2235 hours redeye from SGN down to MEL (B789 VN-A818) did not take off until Monday 22 at 0117 hours so arrival at gate becomes a likely 1319 hours, 134 minutes tardy. This will delay the return QH83 (1305 hours scheduled pushback) by at least 100 minutes.

QH83, the King's Birthday Monday 12 June 2023 flight scheduled to depart MEL at 1305 hours (lunchtime) was in the sky at 1403 hours. Arrival at gate for B789 VN-A895 should be at around the 2022 hours mark mid evening, 32 minutes behind the timetable.

This route now has (in theory) heavy competition with three Vietnamese and one Oz airline having nonstops.
