Bali Question

Thanks, I'll bring some eye drops for the hayfever. Checked my insurance, up to $1100 accom/incidentals for delayed flight, so should cover a few bottles of sparkling. If I can go, I'll go.
It's a lottery. Some people have just flown in and out on their booked flights without an issue. Others on our plane have been stuck there for 6 and for 7 days.

Check bookings.com. Heaps of cheap luxury accommodation there at the moment. Doesn't really matter if one gets stuck if one has no commitments.
Cheers,
Renato

That reroute is quite common due to it seems Aussie airlines not wanting to spend more fuel flying in a different flight path to avoid any ash. Thats why you can fly out to Singapore.

We took industry standard face masks a couple of weeks ago and left them there in case others needed them. Available from hardware stores etc.
Thanks. A minority of locals are wearing masks. Most everyone doesn't.
Can't see why they are needed.

Some days the volcano had a slightly sulphury sewerage smell for an hour. Masks couldn't have helped that.

Renato

I thought Bali was excluded from such coverage according to newspaper articles.

There's a specific date, about mid Sept., when travel warnings were issued. Booked and insured before that date you're covered, after you're on you're own. If I have to spend an extra week in Bali (and even pay some!) it's not the end of the world for me. Welcome to retirement.

If Ash was in the area you’d need them.

We were covered as Insurance was purchased last December.

I did wonder whether GA also got priority at Indonesian airports, so was less likely to cancel flights. Supposed to be heading over to Bali post Christmas so am watching this space with interest currently.

ATC has priority criteria, which does not include State. That's not to say it doesn't happen elsewhere in corrupt countries, but every QFA pilot knows it doesn't happen in Australia.

Flights also FROM Australia resuming today, packing my bags.

I don't know. The airport was open Saturday and Sunday night - when Jetstar had cancelled their flights - and I kept seeing and hearing a constant flow of airplanes landing and leaving all night long on both nights, and during the day Saturday. Plenty of flights were leaving Sunday during the day when we left, while Jetstar was still cancelled, and they weren't all Garuda.

On our Jetstar Asia flight out of Bali - no PepsiMax available.
During six and a half hour stay at Changi airport - no PepsiMax to be found.

On Jetstar flight back home to Melbourne - Heaven!!!!

Had three cans of PepsiMax at $4 a can - loved every millilitre.

Renato
