Well, flight cancellations have caused us to have to spend another five days in Bali, and to fly home via Singapore this coming weekend.

I am now getting desperate after 10 days of drinking Coke Zero. Does anyone know where one can get a can of Pepsimax over here?

I've checked several supermarkets, and asked the locals - they've never heard of it.

Anybody seen it here?
Regards,
Renato

I can't help you Renato but a google search later & I was surprised that you are not the first person to have this worry. It reminds we that we were unable to find coke in Kerala State India many years ago

Pepsi is the devils work...
Pepsimax may be the Devil's work, because to me it is heaven.
Cheers

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been caught up Renato.
Thanks.no problem yet. But we may run out of our medications if we don't leave on the next flight we're booked on.
Regards.

Amazing thanks. Who'd have thought?
Cheers.

I don't know whether it's my eyes or my email font settings or both but whenever I see the title of this thread in reminder emails it looks like "Bail Questions" to me.

Have they brought in Coke No Sugar there? Some places have both varieties. I can't drink Diet Coke or Coke Zero but I can drink Coke No Sugar and Pepsi Max. I am wondering whether the artificial sweetener in Pepsi Max is the same as Coke No Sugar. I could never drink Diet Pepsi. All the diet drinks I've mentioned I couldn't have were because of the aftertaste or side effects of the the artificial sweetener. I hope you get back soon. It sounds like a very stressful time if you've had to drink so much soft drink. I take it the airlines are aware of your medication issues. Hopefully that will give you some sort of priority in the search for availability.

I thought the same thing (bail) but I need glasses.

I also note that I found drinks taste differently, depending on where they are bottled.

South Pacific coke, PNG, Solomons, Vanuatu ect, I do not like.

I tend to find I misread things like that if I haven’t had my morning no-doz...

Actually it's Coke No Sugar I've been drinking - I thought that is now the new name being rolled out for Coke Zero.I can't drink Diet Coke back home as it dries out my mouth for many hours later. Pepsi Lite I find okay.

The medications is may not be as bad as I first thought. My wife was running out of Lyrics, and we just went to the chemist and bought it. Hopefully, that will be the case for other pills we need should the worst happen.

Renato

You aren't wrong. I bought a real can of Coke by accident the other day and drank it. It didn't have the heavenly Aussie flavour I remembered.

They spell it differently on Bali.

Look for cans or bottles with "Bintang" on them and drink up!

Coke etc will make slight changes to appeal to the market, so youre probably not wrong about different tastes between countries.
I have to confess that on a couple of occasions when I've returned to the hotel melted, I have mixed a can of Bingtan with a can of Sprite and guzzled it down.

Which reminds me - I haven't found any cans of Sprite Zero here either.
Cheers,
Renato

Are there any other serious issues as well as the Pepsimax? Like falling ash? Hoards of the Great Unwashed?
We (+wife+daughter) are booked to go SYD-DPS on Wednesday for a week holiday, planning to be spent mainly in Conrad Bali Executive lounge and pool. I'm not concerned too much if we get stuck there for a while as it's school hols for my daughter, and I'm retired. But should I be concerned? How's it going over there?

The only risk in Bali from the Volcano is delays to flights, assuming you stay within the main tourist type areas.

My wife had to take a Telfast pill everyday after the volcano blew. Very slight dust in our balcony. Very few tourists in some hotels. That's about it.

Biggest mystery to me is that we are about to fly out on Jetstar Asia, while Jetstar has cancelled all their flights.

Yippee - we are going home! Via Singapore.
Cheers.

Thanks, I'll bring some eye drops for the hayfever. Checked my insurance, up to $1100 accom/incidentals for delayed flight, so should cover a few bottles of sparkling. If I can go, I'll go.

That reroute is quite common due to it seems Aussie airlines not wanting to spend more fuel flying in a different flight path to avoid any ash. Thats why you can fly out to Singapore.

We took industry standard face masks a couple of weeks ago and left them there in case others needed them. Available from hardware stores etc.

Has much more to do with not wanting crew and aircraft trapped in DPS than not spending money on fuel. And, I suppose, trapping people mid-route on a diversion in to Darwin.

But other than when the airport is closed in the past other airlines have continued flying into DPS and only Aussie based airlines stopped. Garuda and Air Asia continued flying into Australia. So why are Jetstar and at that time, Virgin, the only airlines doing that?

Pretty easy for both of Garuda and AirAsia to divert to nearby airports that they regularly service and have staff, facilities and crew as well (e.g. CGK). GA also have the A330s in most cases so more flexibility when it comes to flight times.

I wouldn't necessarily use either of them as an indication of safety either.

Both good points

Pretty easy for both of Garuda and AirAsia to divert to nearby airports
A Jetstar diversion went to Darwin then, with insufficient accommodation there apparently, went on to Cairns.

Master of the understatement.

Bali is how far from Darwin? Agree re the safety aspect but it seems easier for the two airlines to leave people stranded (not so much in the current incident but previous ones) than do a work around.
