Air Asia just called my friend and collected the Visa on Arrival fee over the phone. So maybe they will collect the tax via the airfare now and delete the VOA step during arrival process.

Or they are doing it on-board like Garuda?

Can't see how it can be added to an airfare considering it's passport (not ticket) dependent.

Ummm Departure Tax? Which is now included in the ticket (except for Air Asia). That's not VOA.

The exception to the above is AirAsia who only started this new process on 25 February 2015 (click here to see notice on the AirAsia website). If you have an AirAsia ticket that was purchased before 25 February, then you can pay the airport tax at the check-in counter but also in advance through their website ‘Manage my Booking’ feature or AirAsia sales offices.

Speaking of, does anyone know how I can check if I've been charged departure tax on my JQ flight? The breakdown on the invoice bundles all the taxes.

The departure tax (PSC) is IDR 200,000 which is about AUD 22.00 VOA is more than double that.

It's called PSC apparently. According to the link it depends when you bought the ticket:
If you have purchased a ticket before 9 February 2015, when the tax wasn’t included in the ticket price yet; then you will still need to pay the airport tax. You will be asked to pay this at the airline counter upon check-in for your departure flight. After you paid, the airline staff will put a stamp on your boarding pass that shows you have paid.

So next visit in July GPH (NZ Passport) no VOA?
Mrs GPH ( Aussie Passport) USD$35.00 still!
 
Just got back from a business trip to Bali. The mooted extension of visa free travel for another 30 or so countries, including UK citizens, has yet to start. Still had to pay A$50 to get in.
 
Hmm, wonder whether this will actually be in effect for my visit in August. I have a UK passport too!

Exactly the same for my fiancée. UK passport in August.

Don't hold your breath though. Nothing happens quickly in Indonesia.

On a side note I cannot believe their doing this. I doubt it'll bring any extra tourists, and "wastes" millions of dollars for them!
 
I think it may actually work for the local Asian nations like Singapore. I can't see $35 putting off anyone from halfway across the world, however.

You're right actually. I had a very Western-centric view there.
