Bali (Indonesia in general) [NOT] to be Visa free for Australians from Jan 2015

I think it may actually work for the local Asian nations like Singapore. I can't see $35 putting off anyone from halfway across the world, however.

They could also adopt a simple online visa payment system like Sri Lanka, this way they could still get the money. Travel agents could obtain visa for their clients and this wouldn't contravene their 2011 reciprocity law. Maybe it's too simple...

Amusing how Australians need a visa for our three closest neighbours. Says something about our diplomatic skills.

Have you seen the visa requirements Australia has?

Absolutely, see my comment re: diplomatic skills. Reducing visa requirements for our neighbouring countries would go a long way to improving our standing in the region (although of course that would make it easier for the evil asylum seekers to get in so we can't have that).

I haven't been keeping up, is it true that NZ passport holders are now Visa Free to Bali?

So does anyone know if this is in action yet? I'll take my UK passport anyway and update the thread on the 8th.

I visited Bali in March 2015 and had to pay US$35 for visa on arrival. I also read recently that they've increased the fee, not sure if that's true though. cheers

There was a reason that the NOT got added to the thread. Indonesians cancelled it.

Yes they did increase it, to USD35 from USD25 earlier last year. Before that they also had a USD10 7 day option.

That was for the Aus citizens though. The "NOT" was added months prior to the June 14th post which impleid that the deal was still going ahead for USA, UK etc.

Anyway, I'll post an update soon as it seems no one is very sure.

Forgot to update this. VOA is free for the previous bunch of nationalities including UK citizens.

I have my doubts about AU becoming free, but happy to see it happen if it does. It's not like the cost puts anyone off.

Friends paid 4 days ago if that helps. I'm going next Thursday which means they will most likely stop collecting it as of next Friday!

Anyone been to Bali recently and can confirm if aussies are now VOA-free?

Australia is still not in the visa-free list (the list is here (Google translate might help: Resmi, Wisatawan Dari 45 Negara Ini Bebas Visa Kunjungan Wisata Ke Indonesia | Sekretariat Kabinet Republik Indonesia)

"Citizens from the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as well as from several other states could already travel to the country visa-free, but the complete list of visa-free states and territories is now:

Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Chile, Morocco, Peru, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Macau, China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, United States, Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and South Africa."

I can't see it happening anytime soon, but happy to be wrong. I guess.

Currently I can skip the VOA queues and beat everyone else off the plane with my UK passport ;)

Following from the Indonesian Consulate, Sydney facebook page.
Nothing in the news, maybe to coincide with Julie Bishop visiting
Indonesia this week.
