Any word on route and times?

The new route hasn't been officially announced yet, but I believe it will be a KUL-DPS-MEL service on a Boeing 737. Timings will probably be similar to the BNE service, i.e. the DPS-MEL sector will be overnight and MEL-DPS will depart in the morning.

I wonder if Malindo will still go ahead with DPS-MEL now that Qantas is starting daily flights.

Well the launch of QF MEL-DPS flights (and increase in JQ flights on the same route) seems to have had the desired effect. Haven't heard anything more from Malindo Air since the announcement. Looks like their MEL-DPS-KUL route is not going ahead after all (and certainly not in the time frame that was originally suggested)

Awful flight times for mine.

Those times might suit some folk, either one way of the other. The QF flight gets into Bali at 2150 - too late to do anything. The Malindo ticket will have you at your hotel in time for lunch by the pool.

On the return an 0430 arrival into MEL doesn't appear great - but makes a long weekend in Bali quite possible - time to get home, change and head into the office.

Very good points, particularly on the Melbourne arrival. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Their website is now taking bookings and it appears a slight change in times.
OD177 arriving in MEL at 0540 not 0430.
Initial prices approximately $600 return in Y and $1700 in J to DPS and $700 Y, $2000 J to KUL return

o_O Outrageous prices! GA is around the same price in J. For Y there's nothing there to attract customers.

I suspect they'll load some promo fares soon!

Tough selling a through ticket to KUL vs Air Asia X. Given the stop, fares to KUL will need to match AAX (incl luggage) at the very least (despite the “full service”).

Hard to see how this route is viable for them (to DPS or KUL), unless their target is pax ex-DPS and/or they’ve tied up package deals.

Has the 739 got the range ex-DPS for MEL? Or will there be blocked seats as well (further undercutting the route viability)?

I suspect that they are firmly targeting the MEL-DPS and KUL-DPS markets (i.e. not MEL-KUL), similarly to what they've done with BNE. I flew with them last year BNE-KUL and I was the only passenger that didn't leave the plane in Bali.

I don't see any range issues, should be able to fly DPS-MEL with a full payload.

Malindo's BNE flight is being scaled back from daily to 4x weekly from February next year.
