My outbound legs were interesting to say the least - its not often that the airline send you to a different airport without telling you but I will save the detail on that for the trip report when I get a chance to write it.

Amongst the craziness my bags finally found me about 48 hours after I checked into my hotel at my destination - but I'm not quite sure which airline (or maybe both of them) to hassle for some compensation -

Everything was booked online through the Qantas website, Oz to LAX was on Qantas metal, LAX to Charlotte was on AA metal with a QF flight number, then Charlotte to Norfolk was on AA metal with a AA flight number. I cleared customs and dropped my bags at the right place in LAX, but I'm not sure whether they missed the flight to Charlotte or made it to Charlotte on my flight and then missed the flight to Norfolk.

Because I booked it through Qantas do I hassle Qantas or do I hassle AA? Being without clothes for two days and arriving in subzero temperatures in Norfolk wearing a polo shirt meant that some clothes shopping was needed in a hurry after I checked into my hotel.

You need to file the claim with the carrier that brought you to your destination - in this case it would be AA (even if it was an AA flight with a QF flight number it is the operating carrier against whom you claim).

You can call AA and ask them your entitlement for emergency expenses.

Cheers Mel - will add that to the list of things to do in the morning!

Definitely AA. And while it's unfortunate it happens a fair bit and I know from experience AA actually manages it pretty well.
