Recent observation at PER airport.

QF78 from SIN got in early and saw passengers getting off CX171 from HKG.

After immigration was waiting at the baggage belt and observed both CX and QF belts.

CX:
1. They brought out oversized luggage before loading the conveyor belt, in order of priority, FIRST, then Business, then economy.
2. Conveyor belt started, and again FIRST tagged bags came out first, followed by business, etc.
It’s great to see an airline bring out the oversized luggage first, as most families travelling with small children need the prams ASAP. I saw a man retrieve his golf set with FIRST tags on it and he was one of the first to get to the customs queue (as you would expect as an OWE).

QF:
Conveyor starts, and CREW bags come out first, followed by a mixture of Business and Economy bags. Not a problem for me as I was travelling alone.

On a previous flight with my family, we were in J and had Business tags on the bags. After getting our bags, waited a long time for the oversized bags to come out and our pram was missing. So went to the baggage service counter, first they said, it may have been left in Singapore. Then someone went to check if it was left in the aircraft, he came back with our pram (with a business tag). ‘Sorry, they are a bit slow tonight.’

So basically, we were one of the first people off the plane, and the last people through customs.

Why is there such a big difference between CX and QF baggage handling in PER, they are both OW airlines?

Why load the crew bags first on the conveyor when they aren’t even there to collect them?

Chucksta,
The crew bags are loaded in what is known as the Bulk hold in most aircraft. The items in the Bulk hold are not containerised - they're manually loaded.
As the bulk hold often also contains urgent items such as displaced bags, expedited freight items and often Premium bags , this hold is unloaded first. There is not usually a lot of spare real estate in the area where the bags are transferred onto the baggage carousel thus all the items from the bulk hold will usually be the first onto the conveyor.
