BRISBANe baggage handlers are calling for smaller luggage limits to avoid back and shoulder injuries.

The Transport Workers' Union says Brisbane's Qantas baggage handlers are seriously injuring their backs carrying passenger luggage.

A two-year survey conducted by workplace occupational health and safety representatives found 54 per cent of full-time baggage handlers had reported a work-related injury.

I think its only a matter of time until we see the 50lb/23Kg limits that are common in Europe and USA applied to Australian air travel.

I do not blame them.

We do not realise how heavy luggage really is until we have to lift it a few times. I checked in 2 bags this morning in BKK and the heavier one was exactly 23kgs. It was a struggle to lift in/out of taxi, not just for me but for hotel porters and taxi driver as well. Now that is only one bag. I would hate to be doing that 100's of times a day.
