Qantas is in the middle of a baggage nightmare around Australia after a stray rock-climbing rope jammed key equipment in Melbourne yesterday.
The airline is believed to have up to 400 pieces of luggage awaiting delivery around Australia and has told travellers they can come back to their final airport destination and "search through the piles" to find their bags.
In another PR disaster for the airline, Qantas has admitted to "bag issues" at Melbourne Airport but could not confirm the number of bags that still need to be returned to passengers.
Qantas lost luggage after Melbourne Airport problem

What a crock, so it's QANTAS fault that someones bag got caught in the baggage system?
Pfft, fairfax is getting just as bad as nonews.

The thing that annoys me the most is the following

Thomas Wood, who lives in Sydney, said his luggage from his Melbourne to Sydney flight went missing from 2pm yesterday with his house keys locked in his bag.

It doesn't take a rock climbing rope to stop a bag from making it to it's destination. Problems happen thus keeping his house keys in his check bags = no sympathy from me.

Furthermore I think that allowing pax to actually go and check though bags out on the tarmac whilst not ideal, it's certainly an interesting way of sorting out the problems as quickly as possible.

I'm a little confused that if the equipment broke down in Melbourne, how come they need to sort through the trolleys in Sydney?

Arriving in MEL from SYD last week we were amongst the first at the baggage carousal and Sue was being paged already as one of our three bags got 'lost' during the International to domestic transfer in SYD :!: :( It made the next flight. :D

okay, those baggage problems are due to being very short staffed i assume!

Offshore maintenance of the baggage carousels must have something to do with it .... ;)

As QFCSA pointed out, why the he'll is this Qantas's fault? The media in this country needs taken to task, QANTAS should stop being a punching bag, grow some balls and start suing for slander or misrepresentation ( or whatever it is called ). I'm over it, I just can't get away from it!

My favourite was the guy whose house keys were in his luggage......

Thats what I was thinking..........look up the word 'stupid' in the dictionary, he would be it. What elese did he put in his luggae? His wallet? Phone?
