Baggage Allowances on Long Haul flights in different classes

Hi

I am flying from LHR to SYD via AUH & I have a query as a gold velocity member what my baggage allowance is.

Both flights are booked on the one booking reference number but the first leg from LHR to AUH is in Economy with Ethiad & the AUH to SYD leg is in Business class on VA (this was upgraded using points).

The luggage allowance as a gold member for the J leg is 55kg - can you please confirm if this is also the allowance for the Y leg?

I was told when I upgraded that the allowance was 55kg for the whole booking but I can't find this anywhere on the Virgin website.

Can you please confirm?

The way I understand it is that since the allowances differ (EY on Economy and VA on Business), you are entitled the baggage allowance on the Most Significant Carrier, pursuant to IATA Baggage Resolution 302.

In this case, your travel of LHR-AUH-SYD crosses IATA (major) areas (Europe/Middle East/Africa to Asia except Middle East/South West Pacific), and VA is the first carrier to do this. Therefore, the VA baggage allowance applies for the entire journey.

Your entitlement upon check-in at London should be 55 kg, i.e. as a Gold Velocity Frequent Flyer in VA Business Class. To ease things at check-in, make sure you carry a copy of your booking showing the new upgraded class, and your Gold Velocity card.

Anat0l is correct but often application of the rules is incorrect, especially when upgrades or status based additional allowance is involved.

Pull your e-ticket up on www.virtuallythere.com and see what allowance is indicated against each segment.

That is what the agent will see upon check-in.
