Qantas
Platinum
We recently flew from Auckland to Sydney. We took the early 6 am flight. Qantas sent us advice saying we needed to be at the airport two hours before the flight. We Ignored this advice as the immigration entry does not open until 5 am. We had already got online check in but I wanted a paper boarding pass. The airport have changed the desks. Now there is a business area for self check and a support desk. This area was not being placed and was chaotic and full of people unlikely to be eligible. The Machine would not print a boarding pass for me. There was no one at the service desk. It took 10 minutes before someone finally helped.
Having the express Lane at security was beneficial at this time of morning. The queue was really long in general boarding and there was no one in the express line.
We then got to the lounge and we were invited to have breakfast in the platinum section. We had two simple orders of a poached egg with a hash brown , no toast and avocado toast with no egg
The first meal arrived which was toast, an egg and hash brown. The second arrived at least five minutes later and that was an egg with toast. If they are going to offer premium timing they should try to get the orders coming out together and they should try to get the orders right even at 5:30 in the morning.
We were in called for the flight which was at the end of the airport. When we got there we found we needed to bus to the jet. This was made less pleasant by the heavy rain. This was not the experience we were wanting.
When we got our seat The change was amazing. The Qantas staff were friendly and helpful. The seat MJ is the old semi recline armchair but is great for a trans Tasman hop the implant entertainment worked but had a limited range of TV shows without having to stream them onto your own device.
Unfortunately at the end of the trip we arrived into Sydney a little early. We had to wait 40 minutes before a gate was available.
The flight was good, unfortunately the pre-departure was terrible.
