BBC News - Heathrow Airport runways closed after plane 'fire'

We are at CDG at the moment waiting for a delayed flight to LHR. Check in Agent says they've been told it's a bird strike.

Update: Some pic's on AV Herald: http://avherald.com/h?article=462beb5e&opt=0

We made it to LHR and it's total pandemonium here. We are in the lounge in T5B where it is nice and quiet. Supposed to be leaving for YUL in 35 mins but no gate and no news yet. The flight to YYZ just got cancelled. Fingers crossed the YUL flight is ok.

Footage on news tonight - engine fire, trucks in attendance. All escaped. Plane looks largely intact (from a distance), with scorched right engine.

No news report
BOTH runways have briefly closed at London's Heathrow airport, a spokeswoman says, after a British Airways plane reportedly had to make an emergency landing.

Airport officials said that one of the airport's two runways had now reopened but that there were still delays.
Heathrow officials said passengers were evacuated safely from the stricken plane. Footage broadcast on British television showed the plane in the air with smoke streaming from one engine.

Another eyewitness, named only as Jamie, was working in his garden near to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea, when he saw the plane.

He told Sky News: "All of a sudden we heard this almighty noise. It was like a fire jet going over. We could just see the right engine on fire. It was absolutely horrendous to see."
